Help revive the KW scene (pg. 7)

Dude, you're asking for too much. That right there is the club scene... and the symptoms of a healthy one.
You want a place that plays Trance (aka does not make money)
Has no line ups (aka Has no customers, and does not make money)
What you need is a proper house party or rave.
Do you live in a house capable of hosting 20-25 people? Post an invite to KW TA's ...get everyone to pitch 10$ for a keg or two, Ill bring decks and a mixer. Rent some PA's. 9/10 posters here are DJ's

Haha, yeah I know that would indeed be worthy of my username, and I am aware of TA parties, but you're missing my point. It's not that I think trance = edm, but it's a part of it. A lot of people do really love it and during the Dennis Hahn era, for me it was an outlet to get to listen to really good trance in town. It's not as horrible to most people as you think and pretty ironic that this is the tranceaddicts board and most of the people here think "trance is gay" (seen that posted like a hundred times). I'm just addressing the point about trance being able to work at a club here. You can put Glenn Morrison under the umbrella of progressive trance and his Tabu show was right up my alley and also very successful.
In any case, don't know how that relates to my comment about my night not getting into Manzone and Strong (it's ok, I went to PR) cuz they didn't let people in past 11:45. I was coming for...not trance. Please don't focus on the fact that I like trance, listen to trance, am a trance DJ. I realize that is not going to bring in the masses instantly, but to make it occasionally available is not only lots of fun for "trance addicts", but also can work really well. Again, I re-iterate, the people's taste dictates what brings in a crowd and that is something that anyone, me, people running PR, people running Tabu, people running any place that wants to get involved in EDM should consider. I'm well aware of the trends these days, whether or not they are my taste. I do, for the record enjoy the techier side.
As for the 317 parties, they are well documented, but they were also a by-product of the scene at the Purple Room.
ps. I think what you were getting at is that a full club = good club. Wasn't arguing that, just saying that when Tabu was talking about coming at 1...not an option (I knew I was coming late, was just taking a chance) when the club is rammed. It is indeed great that they filled the place. |

so people need a reason to go out on a friday/saturday night?? to try and have a good time?? and if they're not into "edm" they should stay home??

The people go because they want to get drunk and party.....welcome to university life. They could care less about who is DJing and what music is being played. As long as there is music for the girls to dance to and alcohol for the guys to build courage to talk to the girls, the club will continue to do fine....until then next new club is built in town. That is the KW scene. |

There has been only 2 or 3 nights here that I have enjoyed...
Maybe my expectations are high, but it is what it is....
Every 'club' here is the same....girls are total sluts, guys are complete perverts....everyone stupid drunk and that's enough to put me in a not so happy mood. This is the scene here...sad to say...
The college/university students here don't care about the edm scene...I remember while in the Purple Room one night, I had a guy ask me "So you like this music?", I replied with "I'm not into electro, so not really", then he said "Oh what do u listen to?", my reply "Techno", and he replies with "Ohhh I know techno, like Tiesto" ... I didn't know what to say, so I said nothing....just an example of how much the majority here knows or should i say doesn't know about the edm scene.
Although I am very disappointed will all that we have here, I have to say that Ryan Maxwell used to make me dance to classic house in the Purple Room. Jace will play techno, and god bless him for that. Geosoul, previously known as Dj Beta and Dj Bole KILL Purple room with some of the best techno ever heard!....but they do bring their own crowd!
Tabu is bringing all these names in, but the cost to get in is just retarded!!!!! Drinks are not that cheap btw...I am a student but I have a well payed job, and I would not give $40 to get in. Sorry.
I do appreciate what the club is trying to do, but the people here will not change. |

| i think the main difficulty for KW (I was raised and lived in Waterloo til i was 18) is that Toronto is an hour away. Get a car full of people, split the gas for like $10 each if that and you have so many options available. local kw scene is only good if there's nothing else to do and feel like going out but not to phils lol |

I think I am done in this thread. It is not $40 to go to Tabu, cover is $7.00 for the likes of Manzone and Strong, $25 for Benny Benassi.
Split gas, parking fees, find a DD, pay higher drink prices and go see the likes of the above mentioned for the same or more money.
KW always has always been the newest club is the best, when we built 140 WEST we raised the bar and no one has ever even come close to matching the likes of 140 in Waterloo, now there is Tabu... If you're been and only if you're been you might agree that NOONE for a very long time will invest the money needed to bring what we brought to Waterloo.
World famous artists are shocked and amazed by our setup and you would be to if you gave Tabu a chance.
BTW, starting Feb 20th.... we are keep the doors open till 3:30 and the bar till 4am.... we are changing the seen, maybe some of you are to negative to look at ALL the positive Tabu is doing.
I wish I could mention the likes of who is playing in the coming months at Tabu, but I can't....
ITS GONNA BE NUTS!
I will be on time to time, but I think there is to many negative people in this thread.

If the past is any indication of the future then the answer is obviously no...it can't and it won't support such a night.
This has nothing to do with how good or bad Tabu is. Would your club consider holding an EDM night every friday or saturday with no Top 40 for the next two years....regardless of how well it does? |

And yes I have been inside....nothing as good as you say it is! The djs probaly like it because you let girls up on stage to dance around!!! what guy doesn't like and ass bouncing in front of him? I know Benny does!!
Also the thought of coming in late is just stupid...come late and you won't get in... |
