but its stuff that the top 40 crowd and university students will like.
It sounds to me that Tabu is just another Top 40 bar that dabbles in the house music....kinda like Club 54 in Burlington. |

and if u really wanna improve the scene... then i recommend you take a minute or two and look through the post called "what djs you wanna see in canada" will provide you with a little more "insight" on what we expect :) |
You guys gotta remember, he has a business to run, and while deep dark progressive is probably the best music on the planet, it doesnt fill up a club like black eyed peas e. 10-15 TA's doesnt pay the bills.
That being said, im sure this forum has served as a good method of feedback from an audience that is experienced in the scene. Hopefully you can incorporate some of this feedback. I'd totally hit up Manzone and Strong @ Tabu if I hadnt fried myself last night at Hatiras in Guelph. |

I don't think you can compare Club 54 to Tabu :)
I don't remember Club 54's lineup in the past 60 days to ever include the likes of Benny Benassi, Global Deejays, AVICII, Manzone & Stong, Cevin Fisher and so on...
Also, you can really compare the venues IMO |

which brings us back to the point that EDM cannot survive in KW and there will never be an EDM scene there. |

| i have an alternative method to put tri cities on the map of edm get the likes of tiesto or armin... the guys who every one knows and ahem even laurier students wont be able to resists that. its funny because i go to conestoga and every1 knows of tiesto and armin but not of ronski or sander van doorn. |

exactly.
its funny how TA's seem to think they are the only ones that exist (or mean anything) in the club scene. if a club doesnt cater specifically to them then they will say the club sucks. |

I haven't been to Club 54 in probably close to 10 years....the point is that you will play some non top 40 stuff but when it comes right down to it, it's still a top 40 club....which don't get me wrong....as a nightclub in KW you need to be that.
There isn't a club in KW where EDM fans can go to unless they want to weed through hours of top 40 songs for the few tracks they like. If I wanted to go out in KW I would have to search and see which club would be playing music that I MIGHT like....there is no club that I know is going to be for EDM fans. |

which as I already said goes back to KW cannot support an EDM scene....it just can't do it. |

So are you going to have Tiesto and Armin spinning every weekend? Those are great one off events but once again you can't have a scene with one off events. Rev has the potential to be a super club if you could develop a format and a scene in KW. I've always thought Rev is a better club design then Guv main room. |

So summarizing the last page of the thread:
1) mashups/house versions of pop songs....we don't like
2) but it's what keeps the university crowd there (true)
3) we obviously have more refined tastes which leads one to believe that you cannot have the music WE like at the clubs that are handcuffed into playing top40s (and yes, laidback luke remix of that song falls into that category as it has gotten stale and in the EDM scene things get stale fast)
so the real solutions to these are as I see them:
1) IF there are going to be after-hours like times cited by tabu, then you need to fill those hours with music from DJs who play that (plenty around)
2) Big acts are big acts are big acts...we'll always be coming to those (I'm coming tonight for example)
3) Getting back to where this thread originated from, if you are in the area, come back to PR on saturdays for a start (i.e. revive scene) cuz it really is still very good - Jace and co.
4) This will open up opportunities to get Friday back for EDM at least once in awhile. No, not everyone from Toronto will come down, but people have lots of fun at the PR, but it's been a lack of cohesion lately and if we can get that back together, then for us locals who are either music lovers or DJs of trance, tech, tech-house, progressive house, whatever...we can have it like it used to be (i.e. every once in awhile a great party at PR)
Again, it is NOT about converting top40s clubs into Guv/footwork, it's about doing alot with the little that we have. It USED to work. There was a reason for that and as tedious as it is to work towards this, it's coming from the fact that there are a LOT of people (see petition, PMs, emails, threads, etc.) who want this to happen just as bad as I do. If Guelph can pull these things off, so can we, all it takes IS the right planning, which was cited as not yet being formulated correctly. This is a first step.
Tabu, I'm sure (at least I hope) that you are synthesizing this information and at the very least, solution 1 should be something to look into if you guys are going to have more "underground" music post 1AM. Please feel free to PM if you're looking for people to guide you with that. I already sent you one earlier before this thread got so long. Check your inbox.
Also as for the big acts, yep, Sander is the way to go with that but TrAnCeiN4LiFe made an excellent point about planning your next acts. |

College students cant afford to pay Armin, or Tiesto's booking rate. |
