| I completely agree!! I think a good start would be to book some local talent. Peter Thompson in the Purple Room would be sick!!!! |

If theres any chance of the area improving, now is the time. Electro house has hit the mainstream, and as cheesy as some of the stuff is, it is the gateway to house -> progressive/techno -> trance....
I cant speak for the KW scene specifically, but the Guelph scene has improved tremendously.
When I started University (2004), there were ZERO regular electronic nights. On occasion there would be a breaks, dnb, house night..but poor advertising, lack of a proper promoter and of course poor attendance meant these events barely made it past 2-3 weeks.
However, now there are 9 electronic events per week in Guelph. About half of those nights are profitable and busy.
One promotion team in particular has managed to bring in guys like Jean Elan, Autoerotique, JFK and Hatiras (Which is going on tonight btw) and all events have been packed to the .
Last night I was in Kitchener to see Hatiras and Flipside, and was appalled to see the club completely deserted. This was a function of poor marketing, no flyers, no advertising, and the fact that it was thursday and in downtown kitchener. The bar-promotion crew failed big time.
Tonight however, in Guelph there are close to 800 tickets pre-sold and this will probably be one of the biggest events in Guelph for the year.
This was done solely through proper promotion, and a marketable name.
Put simply, it doesnt matter if you hit your petition quota. You need to talk to a promotion crew who is willing to to the leg work, has experience in a local market (Toronto) and knows how to sell a name.
From what I understand, the guys who run Taboo in Kitchener have been doing a good job bringing in Benassi, Glenn Morrison, Manzone and Strong. Talk to these guys. Theyre the one with the connections, theyre the ones who will make the scene happen.
It doesnt matter if you you get all the best local talent in the KW area, that doesnt sell.
Once you get a stable event with some cheesy big names come through, you'll have a following where you can start bringing in lesser known international DJ's.
Let me add, that I've struggled with DJ'ing in the area for about three years now, and the tunes that would get a Toronto dancefloor moving, scares people away here. |

| KW doesn't have a real downtown. it will never have a real club. |

This is mainly the reason why we're even trying at all. Everyone saying it can't be done -- extremely valid perspective, but it's not like the idea is to turn an entire club over into EDM, just get certain nights and like i said, club space at certain places.
The idea of bringing in big acts WAS the way to go, and as great as Glenn Morrison was (I was there), it suffered from
1) not that many people coming out FOR HIM
2) bad scheduling cuz that night was Ronski Speed and Stoneface & Terminal @ Vola
so even getting big names doesn't ensure turnout, but if people would turn out more, it would be easier to bring in big acts. Lotta money has been lost in bringing big names to KW and I think mainly cuz of awareness. (btw, I was @ the KW Hatiras/Flipside)
Anyway, as "hilarious" as the petition sounds, it's really just an attempt to professionally express:
can we get a night back at the purple room pleeeease?
IF we get some other nights going, then great, whatever, we can deal with that and if it doesn't work out fine. Still, just think back to the PR and how successful it was for quite some time. You can't say a local scene can't exist, it just doesn't very much right now. The people are there and there's a whole new younger crop of people ready to be absorbed into the KW/TOTA scene so I think there are enough people and also, even if at WORST we get 3-4 nights at PR, what's the harm?
To address the promotion that you were referring to, you're bang on right about that being a paramount factor and without giving too much away in terms of people that are already committed to putting their names and promotional pull to this, it's not just one person going in blindly. It's going to take a little time, but also be done right.
Guelph IS definitely exploding right now. Very good model. |

Yeah, like I said in the first post, there is already an amazing saturday night.
To answer your question, yes an extra night (friday) where it could be more than house (not necessarily trance, but yes, definitely trance would be a main goal). |

It is about consistency and supporting our weekly nights while we bring out massive acts.
We are working on brining multiple acts to Tabu and have changed the scene in the Tri-cities.
If you don't love Tabu than K/W has no hope for you :) |
