We did think that they were sub-human compared to us, just as they thought the same thing about us, and every other non-Japanese person.

The overtones of pure unadulterated racism during WWII has almost no compare.

But thats what war is, and thats what the propaganda machines on both sides tried to convey.

You guys are both correct. However, if the17sss would like to see some evidence in support of us thinking that the Japanese were "sub-human", then...

Saw the trailer. Looks OK. But why are all these kinds of things nearly always the same? The same cheesey predictable soundtrack, the same slow-motion scenes, and the same cheesey predictable phrases.

Would have been good if had done what Eastwood did with Iwo Jima, and show it from both sides.

I'll give it a go nonetheless.

I'm fired up to see it too... same Pacific theater as The Thin Red Line.

My only worry- I hope too much "agenda" isn't going to be pushed here. Tom Hanks said the other day while discussing this miniseries that, "Back in World War II, we viewed the Japanese as ‘yellow, slant-eyed dogs’ that believed in different gods. They were out to kill us because our way of living was different. We, in turn, wanted to annihilate them because they were different."

I thought it was the fact that they pulled a sneak attack at Pearl Harbor for dominance in the Pacific and then fought us relentlessly rather than surrender... not because of racial/cultural differences. in' Hollywood.

Hate to sound non PC here guys, but Japan is still an incredibly racist country, far more than the USA. Thankfully it's becoming less prevalant with the younger generations.
