Pretty decent first episode...a little mix of everything.

Yeah, I said it. I don't have television, and a lot of flash-streamed episodes are a tad choppy, so there. :o

I'm fired up to see it too... same Pacific theater as The Thin Red Line.
My only worry- I hope too much "agenda" isn't going to be pushed here. Tom Hanks said the other day while discussing this miniseries that, "Back in World War II, we viewed the Japanese as ‘yellow, slant-eyed dogs’ that believed in different gods. They were out to kill us because our way of living was different. We, in turn, wanted to annihilate them because they were different."
I thought it was the fact that they pulled a sneak attack at Pearl Harbor for dominance in the Pacific and then fought us relentlessly rather than surrender... not because of racial/cultural differences. in' Hollywood.
I didn't know historical fact constituted an 'agenda'.

So... what did people think of it?
I kinda found it anti-climatic (I guess my expectations were too high) and random. BoB did it so much better with Currahee and seeing how Easy Co formed.
But yeah, I know that's not always possible or "historically accurate", but Pacific just started out too random for me.

In Band of Brothers they had some good daytime Private Ryan-ish battles where you could clearly see what was going on.. I'm worried in this series it will be all dark shadowy jungle crap..with no super solid battle scenes. I hope I'm wrong. The first episode was zzzzzzz... Next episode looks good though.

i watched the first episode yesterday, and although i am positive that it won't trump band of brothers (nazis = cooler than nippons), as a war buff it should be decent..

Luckily you now have a lot of time to watch TV.
Sorry, it's so tempting.

The reason why there was "dark shadowy jungle crap" in jungles is because... there were night battles in jungles at those places
You're hardly gonna get machine guns fighting on great open plains on Pacific islands.
I thought it was really good.
I also found a little anti-climatic, but not too much. At times it was really, really tense and it kinda went some way in making you imagine how the soliders must've felt. I also really liked the character development.

and which particular inaccuracies did you have issues with re the portrayal of Easy company's experiences in the war?
I personally didn't like that Why We Fight episode where they came across the concentrnation camp. I know it was historical fact and I've read the original BOB book, but I didn't like this "Why We Fight" revisionism. The US had stood idly by and let Hitler do what he wanted for years, and even if you believe people had no idea how bad things had become in Nazi Germany that merely proves America wasn't there for that reason.
I think it's fine to recount the historical fact, and the shock the company felt when they came across such appalling scenes should speak volumes on its own. I don't remember that revisionist in the book, and so for Spielberg or Hanks or whoever to turn this simple but horrifying chapter into a glorification of American military involvement isn't quite right.
Also, while I generally liked BOB and SPR very much, there were certain things that laid the sentiment on a bit thick, and some downright weird moments. What the hell was SPR suggesting with that whole POW thing? That morality has no place on a battlefield and you should shoot POWs so they don't come back and gut your squadmates? The whole scenario is massively contrived, so it's clearly in there to say something, but I still can't really tidy it up with the films themes.

Could you elaborate just a tad? I remember that episode but I can’t quite picture what you’re talking about. I remember the company finding the concentration camp, but that’s about it.

Yeah, I always found that a little weird. What was the point of that whole saga, other than to make us cringe as the knife went in? still though, I wouldn’t file it under ‘historic inaccuracy’ compared to poetic license. I give writers/directors quite a bit of latitude if they’re portraying a fictitious narrative set against the backdrop of an historical event.
But, it speaks volumes that you have an informed opinion on the subject while my question was wilfully ignored by the charlatans who raised the issue to begin with.

Resorting to insults just makes you look like a petulent child. Which is presumably what you are.
To tell the truth, I just couldn't be f*cked to write about stuff that anyone with an ounce of intelligence (as you purport yourself to have) should'Ve either known about from the outset, or could've looked up online in seconds.
There is a stark difference between 'artistic license' and 'historical fact'.

What's to elaborate? You've remembered it as it was. The company find the camp, and are all shocked etc. The episode was based on the liberation of Kaufering IV in the area of Hurlach, but like System-J said...
