sweet. thank you for the nominations but i must respectfully decline. i'd be horrible president of anything, i'd probably take out all my frustrations on polaks lol.
obligatory "waaaaa, waaaaa, circle jerk" comment in 3...2...
on that note

its easy to beleive that ppl will always do the inherent "right" thing. but after gaining some life experience, one tends to become more in touch with "reality". and ppl often do what is "right" for the individual rather the collective society, that is the society in which we live, and cannot plot fault completely on the individual.
i personally beleive, and this will go against the rosey PLUR lovey dovey activists on these boards, that in order to truly ever be happy and successful, you must always put yourself above anyone else.
so going back to the video, YES I would shoot first and ask questions later. dog eat dog world. cruel and cold yes. sad extremely yes. am i proud that i have such a jaded view of humanity, no. but it came with a lot of life experience, and eventually one becomes tired of being hopelessly optimistic. |
well im sorry that you feel that way and im not gonna try to change your view in any way. im just wondering, would you care to elaborate on your "life experience" that made you so jaded?? |

Since people are extremely passionate about this topic and feel empathy for those who are suffering, neither side is going to back down. Its just going to end up going in circles or even worse, someone might get hurt. Who knows what might happen.
So, I propose; no more threads on the Middle East!!! Let's just agree to disagree and move on... |

Only the fact that you guys actually enjoy drama...and what I'm saying is since a lot of people here know each other, and sometimes see each other in pubic; somebody might get hurt...who knows what might happen, so let's just leave it alone...I don't think there's any point in me getting heated over something that isn't going anywhere...
or it, keep posting, have all the fun u want; I'm out... |

I hope i'm not being presumptuous by assuming you have some ties to the middle east...if you do...NEVER stop talking about this stuff.......if WE as people from the region with some sort of vested interest in the outcome, stop caring, then how can we expect anyone else to give a damn..but that's just me...
peace out to you...:) |

The Wikileaks video, and this thread in particular, got me motivated to the point of submitting my first post (sorry for it being such a serious opener!), so no fannying around with cordial introductions; instead, I shall just have to dive straight into this melee:
It seems that that a lot of people are quite misguided and (ironically) irrational about how important it is to have an unemotional and dispassionate debate about something that involves the deaths of individuals. The unreasonable inconsistency of this oxymoron is quite apparent.
The killings/deaths of individuals are not theoretical mathmematical constructs that are being dealth with; if they were, only then would it be reasonable, rational and justified to not have any moral principles underlying the assumptions of any proceeding discussions and debates. In matters relating to human life, the most objective decision-making initially requires the use of our subjective feelings. Moreover, it is the sharing of these individual feelings that leads us to take advantage of that not so alien/robotic, but certainly dirty in some quarters, concept of empathy, which helps form a collective and objectively deduced decision-making criteria, namely our shared humanity/morality.
Can you imagine how foolhardy it would be to try and have a completely unemotional and dispassionate discussion about whether domestic murders should be legislated against at? The substantive point is that all (reasonable and rational) criminal laws are couched in a degree of (emotional) morality. For example, you may feel that it was terrible that your neighbour got murdered last night; however, you would only feel that way and expect some reasonable level of justice/future deterrence if you had engaged in some lily-livered empathy, by thinking: 'crikey, WHAT IF IT HAD BEEN MY MUM?'.
Personally, it is then no greater a leap of faith and imagination, to then engage in the same level of empathy when it comes to the deaths of people on the other side of the world. I guess you could say it is this logical, reasonable and rational universal principle/assumption of our shared humanity that should form the fundamental basis of these types of 'dispassionate' and 'unemotional' discussions concerning human lives.
By the way, for too long, too many ordinary people have 'agreed to diagree on the Middle East'. It is this inaction on the part of the general public that has culminated in the mess that is that part of the world still existing, with the lack of a solution continuing to cause so much heartache and misery.
That was actually a really cathartic experience...I may get things off my chest on here more often! |
