I think Yankee mentioned something about overreaction. In my opinion there is not ENOUGH reaction from people. We are so utterly insulated.

Nah you are totally reading me wrong. (FYI this whole post is not all directed at you).
I think its perfectly acceptable to feel a sense of emotion when looking at war videos: its a tough thing to watch!! MOST of war is a disgrace! There is nothing pretty about it and people around the world have to suffer. Does it make it ok? no. It is reality? yes!
War has been going on for thousands of years, and when has it ever been fun? When they had sword fights in the old days, do you think the guys would stand there and say "Oh he has a sword, and we are at war. But he is probably a good guy. I doubt he will stab me with that sword. I will let him be." Hell no, they didnt give a flying F*ck!!!
Unfortunately there has been rape, death, torture, etc of both civilians and military members for centuries, and now we suddenly want to paint this pretty pink picture about it? It sucks, but its UNREALISTIC!!! Militaries do what they want to get the "W". I would personally give everything I had to have a peaceful world in which none of this exists, however, its an impossible wish and not the way the world works.........
I do NOT agree with killing civilians in any way shape or form. I just think people are extremely unrealistic and uneducated about these things, as they think that the world is just going to exist on a bed of roses.......would be nice, right?
Having a reaction to this tells me that people out there honestly believe (or wish) that the insurgents on the other side would not JUMP at the chance to come over here and go ballistic....of course they would, its a war and they dont give a f*ck about YOU!
edit: my point is, that I agree with Yohan. Questionning the situation is a much more rational response. Yohans questionning made perfect sense to me and asks legit questions as such we can find out whether they made the correct or incorrect decisions. |

Interesting posts, and great photo! Except I have to disagree with "planet is fine" statement. Planet is in peril, in serious danger, we are killing life. Surely, the planet will outlast us, but we are destroying the biosystem. Without the biosystem Earth will be just another dead lame planet.
This is what people need to understand - to our knowledge, we are the only source of life and intelligence that exists out there. Why spend so much effort and hate to destroy each other and the planet, when there's nothing else out there? We are a small lonely tiny spec in the universe, very unique and special, why we are too busy killing each other and everything in physical, emotional and psychological ways. Have we humans reached the end point where our brains are going to kill our civilization? Is this the end of our evolution? We have such powerful amazing thing called the brain, capable of so many amazing things, yet we seem to use it mostly for the terrible things. Its utterly primitive and pathetic of us. Even the nature and God are laughing at our stupidity. |

Ugh I agree with this....its soo utterly sad that we as humans take part in this. Despite my bitching about being "rational" I truly despise that humans do this to each other.... I HATE war!! :(  |

If there are CANADIAN troops fighting in a war which WE as taxpayers are paying for and they were sent there by the politicians that WE elected(:whip: :whip: :whip: ) then WE, as a unified nation, are at war... |
Nick seriously - like YOU have a choice as to where your taxes go to?
just because the govn't is spending % of my income tax on the war, doesn't mean I PERSONALLY SUPPORT THIS BULL, more like - I have no choice
or I can start witholding my tax money?
I never elected any politicians, I can't vote until 2011 at least
I DO NOT SUPPORT the war in any way, accept that I hope that all of those close to me who partake, get back home safetly. Therefore I refuse to be generalized with the "WE are at war" statements

you both have points. I have to accept that fact that "we" are at war, but that doesnt mean I want it to happen. I loathe the fact that my money is going towards a stupid war as opposed to more education :whip: :whip: |

I just read today that one of the states is cutting down the ed.+soc. programs funding by 2.5 BILLION
that's right!
seriously, crap like just makes me so angry
in Canada, that war money could be used on SO many things - infastructure, public transit, tourist..
I think my we vs. me argument stems from the fact that I wasn't born here |

This war didnt have to happen. It was poor judgement on behalf of American neo-conservatives. They could have just sent in a jackal squad to take out Saddam and deSaddamed the whole country, which could have saved hundreds of thousands of people and more. Or other options.
Hasn't Vietnam been enough? Or Afghanistan? Imperialists need to learn from their mistakes, but they never do. |
