Making fun of people = Wrong
Telling people to kill themselves = Fine? |

In that case, the world needs way more losers.
You see, Fayraree, I'm all for tolerance. I believe we need to understand we're together in this world and there's nothing we can do but accept the fact that we must coexist in peace if we're to pursue happiness - or a tolerable life, as I'm not sure happiness can be achieved anyway. However, we need to put people over ideas, and the best way to remind ourselves that it is humans, and not vain thoughts, that matter is to scorn whatever it is that we may hold a wee bit too sacred.
In this case, no religion should be protected from scorn. No ideology should be taken too seriously. No idea should be taken for granted, lest we kill one another because we believe our hobbyhorse is the ultimate truth. |
Bam. Lira said this more beautifully than I could've. |

You know it's weird. I don't consider myself Muslim anymore, I was raised Muslim (shabbily I might add, thanks mom & dad :p) but over the past decade I've pretty much put my religious beliefs aside (I honestly blame bacon, delicious mother ******). For some reason I'm STILL a little put off by all this, I don't know why. It feels as though my history, my entire upbringing, has been under constant attack over the past couple years and it really makes me sad. It didn't used to always be this way, being Muslim was never a joke or anything people feared or made fun of. What a ing bummer eh?
I fully lol'd at the Lego Muhammeds |

Every religion has been made fun of and/or attacked heavily at some point. It's just the natural cycle. |

Oh no I know, I just meant within the past couple years. It's interesting to be a part of, in some way, such a hated/feared/persecuted group. As much as I feel disconnected from the Islamic community, looking at stuff like this still affects me. Weird :p |

It's not you, Bas. No one is making fun of Muslims for the sake of it (if someone is doing that, they deserve to be reprehended). It's fine to believe in Allah if you will, it's okay to believe Muhammad was indeed a prophet if you want. I don't even mind if your girlfriend decides to wear a burka as long as it's a choice, not something imposed.
However, once Muslim extremists misused the teachings that were supposed to bring their own people together, it was time someone pointed out the nonsense behind it. It's inevitable that, in a society that holds freedom of speech dearly, anything that is considered a threat will be criticised.
Granted, there's stupidity among the critics as well, and it's these clueless idiots that belittle others for their beliefs, instead of just pointing out the flaws in the reasoning of those that take these beliefs to unhealthy extremes.
But, you're sexy, Bas. No one would ever mock such a sexy sexy thing :)
Edit: Sorry for the typos, I'm in a hurry and can't read-proof this. |

| Paradox Lost |
I find that a concept like this, although crafted in the spirit of reacting towards censorship and the threat of violence associated with it, lacks the same level of expressive relevance that is found in other cases in which disparaging opinions and illustrations are produced regarding the Prophet Muhammad. Those instances consisted of commentators advancing their opinions in such a way that were consequentially offensive to Muslims, but the idea in a case such as this is to produce the most offensive illustrations with the greatest frequency possible in a way that's divorced from relevant commentary of the subject matter (assuming it's even thought out enough for it to exceed producing them for their own sake). Naturally, I can't speak for everyone involved, but it's not too hard to fathom that such an intent is especially true for the slew of bandwagon hoppers who are not even concerned with the cause something like this is purportedly built upon.
Unfortunately, it winds up needlessly hurting the scores of average, ordinary Muslims who have nothing to do with this inasmuch as it enrages the radical variety who have reacted similarly in the past. |

lol thanks. The problem lies in the majority really. No one is differentiating between the extremists and the regulars, and the thing that s all over us is that the extremists have the louder voice. All the normal Muslims are just turning their cheek, if you will, and waiting for this to all sort itself out. Stupid non-confrontational s :p |

It's not at all weird. Whether or not you have distanced yourself from your Islamic upbringing (however flippant it may have been), it was still nevertheless a component of your identity, and it's not at all surprising that some of those sensibilities linger with you, and provide you cause for being put off when you come across something like this. |

That's not a Muslim thing, don't worry. In most groups there's a vocal minority that is too loud and inconvenient making everyone else look bad.
Such is human nature :p |

The Everybody Draw Mohammad Day got removed. I hijacked the Everybody Against Drawing Mohammad day page for about 15 minutes, threatened to butt rape every mussie that is against homosexuality then I tired myself out.
I forgot how tiring it feels to scream at religious people. The hardcore Christians still want gays to die, and so do the Muslims. Nothing is new. |
