I would definitely reconsider seeing him (unless you are a die-hard fan of his) even though if he does turn out to be good the vibe is likely to be great. If you look at seeing a dj as an investment it is probably a bad one as there are alternatives that provide equal or greater return with significantly lower risk, thus providing much higher expected return. Instead of seeing Hawtin i would go to see Umek - a dj that nearly always destroys the dancefloor. no frying pan, no cowbell, no billie jean, no risk of girlfriend/friends bitchin about your music taste after you take them to the party.
Good point(s)!

I'm going to keep this little trick in my back pocket if I need to get some where in a club fast lol

I think you better reconsider going to see Richie at FW and at Stereo. If there is one DJ who has a "schizophrenic alter ego" it's Richie. Richie can be the best DJ in the world when he wants to be and has something to prove but he can also be the most experimental, disjointed feeding his own ego of a DJ in the world. He is so hit or miss you just have to be prepared to be disappointed at times. Is he going to play a banging techno set, minimal, 80's, or is he going to have a symbol, a pot and a spoon and spend the night building his set to include a frying pan...I've seen Richie pull out Billie Jean at 10AM at Time Warp, some Prince at Minitech so don't be pissed off and cry bull if he does at FW or Stereo.
So true. I don't think he should reconsider going to see him at FW and Stereo, but he should be fully prepared for what you said above.
When I was reading this thread earlier today, noticing how controversial it was I was reminded of old Richie reviews. He is the most hit or miss DJ around. But when he's on, he's absolutely untouchable.

lmao. Perfect description of Ricardo's mixing. Sometimes he'll just punch a mix in, and it will be *almost* a trainwreck, but he'll correct it in less than one beat. It is a really disorienting effect, but gets the crowd going. I love it.

What if are there for a little bit of column A and a little bit of column B?

whatever, he has one date in na but it doesn't mean anything, this was a bday present to sneak, you would never see him play here otherwise and i hope it stays that way.

the way you describe the styles makes me in cringe for some reason, do you really have to call it that?

but i did expect decent minimal and decent deep influenced tech (yes there is expectation based on brand, you go to see a name dj precisely because there is expectations, not becasue there is a 30% chance he could be good), which i figured would sound decent enough to make me dance on an "amazing soundsystem" advertised by the promoters. Instead we had to listen to 80s music and weirdo stripped down break beat on a week distorted sound while ricardo was getting high on stage....
bla bla bla who gives a , as previously mentioned you do not understand a dj of his caliber (who is like hawtin either hit or miss) and you shouldn't go to this type of party expecting him to play anything, he plays "whatever" that is his style and because you've never see him you don't get it, if next time you go without expecting anything maybe at the end of the day you may have some fun.

i say what makes sense, many of the sub genres within broader genres do not have broadly used specific names attached to them ...

this is cracking me up, LOL. - "He is the greatest dj in the world. He plays "whatever" but i love it because he is the greatest dj in the world, he is so great he is just too good for toronto where people have poor taste. Clearly you have no taste if you dont like my idol"
^ this is appoximately how you sound... grow up man!
Dior Homme
After reading 7 pages of the funnies, i can honestly say im glad i left the line after 20mins only to go home and do school work @ 230 am.
sure i paid $10 for parking but i cut my losses and im glad i didnt spend any more than i needed to. i made a bad decision to go out this night but i made up for it by going home early and not dealing with any more bull. this will show me not go to out when i have work to do.
its like dodging a bullet only to be grazed with a flesh wound.

when i did i say that hes the greatest in the world? what does that even mean lol
by whatever i mean you cannot classify him as one style as musically he's very versatile depending on where he's playing.
ps. you're telling me to grow up and you're the one crying that he didn't play dubby minimal underground pop tech
