that was absolute ing rubbish! ricardo was abysmal. "it's my life" - are you joking? the coat check situation was ing horrendous. we left early cos we couldn't deal with it anymore. i want those hours of my life back. and what's up with the poster of scarlett johanssen on the wall? really?

omg last night was just all kinds of lame that i did not want to deal with.

About the soundsystem:
I know the soundsystem was good because it sounded amazing when I first walked in when the openers were playing (as I mentioned before). But it sounded pretty crappy for Sneak and Villalobos... some of you are saying that they were pushing the mixer too hard. Do you guys mean they were red lining it? Wouldnt these veteran DJs be aware of stuff like that? Or maybe it sounded fine in the booth and they were unaware of how it sounded around the rest of the club?

I just dont get how guys with this much experience would have problems with levels.

I'll ask again... So people's high expectations - after shelling out $30+ to be entertained for the evening - are to blame for the poor reviews? :conf:

Clearly, Ricardo Villalobos was only playing for himself last night. It was like watching him masturbate on stage. I paid $30 to dance, not to be involved in some horrible threesome where no one gets off (except, of course, for RV).

While our reviews are very different this is ing hilarious

Im glad we are related :)

You would be surprised...Couple years ago I opened for Gaudino... as soon as he got on, he cranked the master a good 90 degrees. Within half an hour, fuse blew twice. Some are deaf, some like to play loud. Remember, what you hear in the booth is different than what is playing on the main.

As for the party, that sucks. Any pictures/ videos??

You went to one of the fathers of HOUSE MUSIC 's birthday... seriously what did you expect?

I think you are taking my post out of context. All my comment related to is my interpretation of what Mike said (and p.s. sorry about potentially offensive wording). I myself didn't expect anything good from sneak and therefore only showed up after he finished. But i did expect at least half decent music from Villalobos whose performance was hyped to be godly and unreal and then in the end he just got high as a rooster and "played" a set which was beyond horrendous by any objective merits.

p.s. love how people say that the sound was amazing in the beginning. Like it wasnt just about distortion, there seemed to be not at all enough power output on those speakers.

hearing sound like last night brings back the nostalgia of viva days makes me remember viva. now that was the ing sound, especially as they upgraded when it changed to club rio

on another tip entirely here - for those wanting a more intimate vibe sans villalobos, tonight at Our House is Sneak, Phil Weeks, Hector Moralez, and Mes, along with locals.

Should be good!

WOW...what an interesting review thread. I ended up having a really good time even though the music was far below expectations.

I've seen Ricardo about 8 times in the past and for the most part he is unique and untouchable when he wants to be...however, when he gets distracted he often goes places nobody else in the club wants to go. Last night was one of those nights...apart from a few tracks and moments it was not a good night for him. Even if he was on I actually don't think most of the people here would have enjoyed it. He doesn't play what Toronto audiences like...he is no Sasha, Burridge, or Carlo Lio.

The opening DJ's and Sneak were great and anyone not agreeing or liking what they were playing simply doesn't have a clue about them. It would be the same as going to see Tiesto and complaining that he didn't play a hard driving techno set.

The sound system was spot on at the beginning but got worse as the night went on. That's the DJ's fault and not the systems.

I got to the club just after 11PM and it took me 2 minutes to get in...showing up for an event like this (huge DJ, big party, first big party at a new venue) after 11:30 is just stupid. It's going to be ing chaos.

The crowd was what I expected so it didn't bother me.

Coat Check was a complete cluster ...why is it that the only club in this city that can run an efficient coat check 99% of the time is Guvernment?

Don't believe the hype!!!! Unfortunately what we got last night was a distracted, out of touch Ricardo...it happens with Ricardo.

If you read more about Ricardo you would have known he can be very hit or miss. It might not be the best trait for a DJ (not everyone can be like Digweed) but that is what you get from Ricardo.

He always parties when he is in the booth...that's part of his show.
