Yikes, sucks to hear!

I really thought he would play well considering it was Sneak's birthday and all.

There was a snagging feeling at the back of my mind that the party could be a failure though considering it ended at 5am and it was at a venue like this.

Although I wouldn't want to stay out past 5am every night, it seems to me that the normal 5am end time in Toronto really limits the potential of big parties like this. I wish it was like it used to be with parties normally ending at 7am or later.

Finally, it's really weak that Ricardo would get get "distracted" and play a disjointed set for his North American fans considering it's his only North American date this year. Also, I've been hearing in reviews from around the globe in the past 2 years that Ricardo has really not been playing that well anymore.

Ricardo = washed up?

I thought the sound was great for the opening DJs but it sounded totally different once sneak came on.

And I still don't understand all the hype behind Villalobos... What's so great about this guy??? I don't get it

anyone who went to that party expecting to hear a typical villalobos set deserves to have hated every second of it... it was sneaks birthday beats...

He was at fault for trying to do too much in 3 hours... loosing me from time to time. But I enjoyed him for the most part.

It was wayyyy over crowded but I enjoyed the crowd. A really great vibe from everyone, everyone was DTP (down to party). I met some super cool people.

The venue itself gets a mixed review...

more when I wake up again...

musically, mikey always tells it like it is from what i can tell.

I showed up at 2:30 and the door guy, was handcuffed (metaphorically) by the cops staring him down from across the street, daring him to let more people in.

He couldnt.

and stated as much.

After trying to get my contacts to come get me (to no avail cell phone signals were non existant inside to alot of phones)

I bailed.

I can't imagine how ticket holders must fee.

Toronto the greedy strikes again

can't everyone (the promoters) make $20,000 in one night and be happy instead of ing everyone over to make $30,000?

Does anyone give a anymore?

^^^^

Easy to say when it's not your ten grand you wanna give up...

And about the Ricky reviews, I find them amusing...

The show at the door was unreal. The coat check line... Even worse.

I can't believe it. I've never had a night where I've had to contend with so much bull.

So people's expectations are to blame for the poor reviews? :conf:

Quantity son, quantity.

people with the negative reviews all left early and didn't stay till the end.

Ricardo was up and down, but picked it up after a short trip down the 80's alley and was relentlessly good afterward.

ty crowd and the staff were clearly not capable of handling the overcrowded crowd, coat check was a nightmare.

i spent 1.5 hours in total in coatcheck/entrance lane.
Ricardo is a disgrace to djing and electronic music. wasnt really excited to go or anything but decided to give it a shot given the crazy hype surrounding this event. around the time i got in the club (2 something am) the music was at least bearable (not great but bearable) but then that track with really weird cheesy sax melody came up and after that its just been an unbearable show. Ricardo played some 80s pop, stripped weirdo breakbeat, some totally random etc. His mixing was awful too. He would would like just stop a track and just start the next one a few times, lol. He was obviously high and didnt give a . He was busting out some gay moves in the dj booth and was getting high and drunk right on stage (in addition to the he most likely popped before). Didnt give a about the crowd and was just trippin. Like really this guy has a goddamn awful taste in music, is a sketchhead and is flawlessly unprofessional about his job. I feel fooled out of my time and money by the promoters that overhyped this event to the point of lieing to the people. like ok you cant directly control what a dj plays but was it really necessary to lie about the "amazing soundsystem" or the "cool" crowd that is gonna show up to this event??

aside from the fact that this ****** will likely never get another gig in this city, i think the promoters should really take some effort to rectify the situation. either give the money back or provide free tickets to one of the next events or throw a free party with a proper techno dj.

You know, after the bull- in the lineup (most horrible line ever), and after the mini-80s set, I ended up having a pretty good time. I really enjoyed the music from 3:00/3:30-ish onward, and once the crowd thinned out a little I was able to find room on the dance floor to start busting out.

Wasn't the most amazing time in the world, but when all is said and done I had a pretty good time.

Sneak and Villobos drove the mixer too hard. The sound was crisp and perfect for the opening act. This is a setup problem, not a sound system problem.
