What could be better than Villalobos? (pg. 7)

I had a very good time. The music was a little iffy at times.. but I just ended up chatting away or stepping out for a smoke during those parts. I found a great spot to dance in and was surrounded by great people, which made it much better.
I do agree that he wasn't giving it his all. His programming wasn't the greatest either.. but the last hour or so of his set made up for that. He was dropping some beautiful tracks then.
Fun night :D |

the coat check girls were so stupid and un-organized yet people were still giving them $20 tips (mikeyN)...circle of idiocy...
overall the night was very up and down, sneak was alright and villalobos was all over the place but got better at 4am. The company of good friends and friendly strangers around me made it a decent night overall. |

ouch. that sucks hard!
as for the music, i quite enjoyed Fries & Bridges and Sneak had some inspired moments there - i thought the vibe was pretty hot overall.
villalobos was very hit or miss. he played some really interesting tunes, but then also some very filler stuff.
his mixing was at times laser point with what he was doing, very precise, but at other times so crazily loose it was baffling. drunken kung fu master stylez i would say. interesting for sure, but not exactly a party kinda vibe.
i got there earlyish to avoid the predictable door show, and left just before close, to avoid the similar thing with coatcheck. i enjoyed the venue and the party! |
Oh - and after spending 45 minutes one block from my apartment to get my coat (which we needed because the line to get in was so insane) I came home to my cat, who was in a serious medical condition that required emergency vet care at 5am. So when the vet told me that she *almost* died, I nearly marched back to that coat check girl and punched her in the face, for being such an IDIOT that she couldn't even hold on to one coat tag, thus requiring me to spend 45 minutes in coat check line while my cat was a block away basically dying.
Sorry, major rant, it was the worst night ever. |

First time going out in a while and I'm glad I went.
Got in with no waiting at all around 11pm through the will-call/pickup entrance located in the side alley.
- The opening act was decent - but I was saving energy for later.
- Sneak's set was OK - not really my cup of tea.
- Really enjoyed the 1st hour of Ricardo's set . He lost me in hour 2, and was hit-and-miss in hour 3. Really weird last track of the night. lol
Nice looking crowd!
Coat check was a mess, but I've been through worse. I guess they underestimated coat check utilization.
Overall - I had a great time, and it was really nice chatting it up and seeing everyone again! :) |

This is what happens when:
a. you have a party in the district.
b. you get way too many promoters involved.
\ |
c. when they oversell tickets and those who already paid were not allowed in |

Don't believe the hype!!!! Unfortunately what we got last night was a distracted, out of touch Ricardo...it happens with Ricardo.
If you read more about Ricardo you would have known he can be very hit or miss. It might not be the best trait for a DJ (not everyone can be like Digweed) but that is what you get from Ricardo.
He always parties when he is in the booth...that's part of his show. |
but for what he was dropping his persona seemed self absorbed. I didn't enjoy his personality because the music was not delivering.
Booth parties should only happen when the party is going off! |

About the soundsystem:
I just dont get how guys with this much experience would have problems with levels. |
It happens a lot of times, in almost every club, international or local, DJs just seem to think cranking it out means it's a better party, which isn't the case.
One thing I noticed, is the dancefloor speakers were Funktion Ones but the ones at the main bar were not. So that might explain people hearing the music differently. I'll doublecheck tonight. |
