NBA basketball is boring to watch. Run up the court, score, run back up the court, score. Teams don't play defense like they do in college. I'd much rather see a 75-80 point game with good defense than a 100+ point one with a bunch of superstars scoring at will over the white guys. |
Boooo.... I would argue defense in the NBA is light years ahead of college. There is such a lack of offensive talent in college, that it just looks like everyone plays great D. Most of those bums can't score for once they hit the bigtime- see my earlier post about Adam Morrison and JJ Reddick. Same goes for college football vs. NFL... almost everyone at the professional level would crush the college competition. DB's, safeties, linebackers are all faster. |

College basketball doesn't interest me at all either. Totally agree with The17sss above- I don't watch much college bball at all but, from my limited experience with it, I believe that there's not nearly as much individual skill in the game as there is in the NBA. In college games I always see teams swinging the ball around for the duration of that ridiculously long shot clock, or maybe sometimes driving in transition. Nobody really wowed me with their awesome play-making ability in the tournament.
The big difference between college and the NBA, as far as I'm concerned, is that college teams have the opportunity to play teams that aren't anywhere near their skill level.
I don't see defense as being poor in the NBA - rather, star players have so much individual skill that defense becomes irrelevant. Pass [Kobe, Lebron, etc] the ball w/ 5 seconds, watch him split the double-team and drain the shot with a hand in his face. You just don't see that in college...
I agree that basketball games are boring to watch though - they keep you glued to the TV but there's no real tension in it (to me at least) up until the 4th quarter. |

Phil Jackson commented a moment ago "I had a chance to speak to Andrew [Bynum] in the locker room and he told me 'I'll be fine' "
//One of the announcers just referred to Matt Bonner as "The red rocket." Is that really his nickname ??? "Boner" = "Red Rocket" :haha: |

Yup. That's been his nickname since his days in Toronto.
Anyways going back to actual basketball talk: what are everyone's picks for the Eastern Conference? The match ups are all set, and you don't know what they are, this is it:
(1) Chicago vs (8) Indiana
(2) Miami vs (7) Philadelphia
(3) Boston vs (6) New York
(4) Orlando vs (5) Atlanta
Before the trade deadline the Celtics were my pick to come out of the East, but now I'm doubting that they can get past the Knicks (crazy, I know). If the Celtics can get back their balls then they should get past the Knicks in 6, but otherwise this will be anybody's series and will most likely go to 7.
Both Chicago and Miami will decimate their opponents.
Orlando vs Atlanta will be interesting. Both teams have under performed compared to years past and it seems like ATL's guards aren't playing on quite the same level as they used to. Al Horford is still Al Horford, but he won't be able to do it alone, especially with Dwight beasting on both ends of the floor this year. Orlando will take it in 5.
Curious to see how what the match ups end up being in the West. |

I think Boston will beat the Knicks in 5.
Orlando over Atlanta in 5.
Bulls over Pacers in 4.
Heat over 76ers in 6.
After that we have Chicago vs. Boston and Miami vs. Orlando?
If so -- Chicago - Orlando in the Eastern Conference Finals.
I think Chicago shouldn't have too much trouble making it to the NBA Finals this year: the Celtics really ed up with that trade (in my eyes), the Knicks just aren't ready to play at the level they'd like to (I know they're starting to get it together but still...), and I don't give Miami much credit. I think any of those 3 other teams could wear Miami down in a full series. |

Chicago plays the winner of Miami-Boston.
[If all advance] |

Ah gotcha. In that case I think
Boston shouldn't have too much trouble dispatching Miami. 3-1 against them in the regular season, and such a series ought to bring out the best in KG, Pierce, Allen, and Rondo. Especially Rondo. |

lol... my ex girlfriend's sister dated that goon for a couple months in college. He was over at their parents' house for Christmas dinner the same time as me. Holy can that guy eat! For x-mas he bought my gf's sister the cheapest gold necklace I've ever seen. What's funny is she's a gold digger and broke up with him assuming he had no future in the NBA. Now he's been in like 9 years and makes pretty nice bank. |

| I don't know how I would feel, if I were a girl, about dating a guy called 'the red rocket'. I suppose that could be quite liberating. |

| I'm rooting for Philly to pull an upset, they're just playing great team basketball, and maybe Doug Collins will get smth out of his bag of tricks to contain the lame three of miami |

Yeah, but no Perkins and an injured Shaq? They have no inside presence anymore, I don't think it will be as easy as you think for Boston to beat Miami. |
