This is just embarrassing. Kobe throws a temper tantrum and then (go to 0:35 in the video) calls the ref a "ing faggot". The Lakers won, but I can't stand how Kobe behaves on the court. I'm sorry, but this isn't acceptable, not for Lebron, D Wade, nobody should act like that.

apparently they fined him 100k for this

That's ridiculous. The league knows that players are going to be swearing when they go to the bench after a T. They shouldn't have had cameras on him in the first place.

Dammit! I'm supposed to hate you and I've been agreeing with you 80% of the time in this thread.

But seriously, you're right again here. Look at this - the president of GLADD used this situation to be a typical publicity whore for his organization acting like Kobe engaged in some type of hate crime:
quote:
“The NBA has sent a clear message to sports fans everywhere that anti-gay slurs have no place in the game,” said GLAAD President Jarrett Barrios. “When such a prolific cultural institution like the NBA speaks out against hateful words, we are reminded that fair-minded Americans are siding with equality for all. This decision will serve as an important precedent that will help ensure a safer, more inclusive environment for fans and players everywhere, and we look forward to continuing our dialogue with the NBA.”

Then David Stern had to go all politically correct, my guess is to avoid any defamation lawsuits since the NBA has deep pockets:
quote:
"While I'm fully aware that basketball is an emotional game, such a distasteful term should never be tolerated. Accordingly, I have fined Kobe $100,000. Kobe and everyone associated with the NBA know that insensitive or derogatory comments are not acceptable and have no place in our game or society."

Finally, Kobe (or his lawyer I should say) was forced to release a politically correct CYA statement in response:
quote:
“What I said last night should not be taken literally. My actions were out of frustration during the heat of the game, period. The words expressed do NOT reflect my feelings towards the gay and lesbian communities and were NOT meant to offend anyone.”

SO RIDICULOUS!!!
LAdazeNYnights
somebody should chop up a video of that gay soccer ref prancing around and kobe being pissed up saying that in response

It's the same reason that they don't show baseball players packing lips of tobacco in the dugouts. This would be like if by chance they had the camera on some superstar packing a lipper and then fined him for it for setting a bad example for the kids.

The commentators even said "they might want to take the camera off him right now." What a ing faggot David Stern is for fining him.:D
LAdazeNYnights
yeah exactly. we don't see players saying stuff like that because the cameras generally don't hang around to see it happen. the announcers know what the deal is. that's why instead of saying "can you believe this guy?" the announcer just wondered out loud why the camera hadn't switched.

Probably because everybody hates Kobe.

I would say Lebron could guard Kobe and Rose one on one, yeah. Probably Howard too, unless he's within 2 feet of the basket.

lol, seriously? lebron is an awful one on one defender, he's good at getting into the passing lanes and sometimes with his chase-down blocks (which are goaltending half of the time), but as a one-on-one defender he sucks.

lol, you're right, the NBA has a pesky habit of giving the Defensive Player of the Year award to terrible defenders...

I guess those First team All-Defensive honors from the past 2 years were bs too.
