even the best parenting skills can't reform some kids. i'm not meaning to sound harsh here but the world isn't made of rainbows and unicorns. it's a pretty ing harsh reality.. one of the best examples of this are kids from the first nations reserves here. The band leaders don't want white people to adopt the children because they might loose their heritage and culture, but their basic needs are not being met. As a result there is a staggering amount of these first nations kids growing up in the system, and turning to crime and substance abuse as a result. It`s sick, but it`s reality.

Lol, I got into a discussion on Facebook with my buddy who lives in Edmonton about natives. He ing hates them, lol.

Of course good parenting really isn't going to make up for health and mental disorders... I am just saying that some children who are not predisposed to FAS etc. have a CHANCE of being rehabilitated, even at later ages.

But this thread and your story are the exact reasons why I am so pro-abortion. I don't think it's fair to dump these children off into the system where more than half of them are left to spend the rest of their lives and rot. It's just wrong IMO. With that being said, I want to adopt one day. Hopefully my experience wont be so horrible.

i never said there wasn`t a chance, i just said that it`s not the case with everyone. I`m not here to say that every kid doesn`t deserve a chance, my heart breaks for these kids. It sounds wrong but in alot of these cases i agree abortion would have been better.
If anyone is considering adopting an older kid, perhaps try volunteering with foster care or big brothers big sisters. That might give you an idea of what these kids are facing and how they deal with life. I`ve always entertained the idea of being a `big sister`, i`d like to do it when my kids are a bit older and i have more time.

Foster care is no joke. I know a couple who are foster parents - they foster newborns and infants, and it's a really serious, tough, selection process. They don't around.

People get through the cracks.

I was in foster care for a period of time when I was about 8-9 years old. The foster parents were useless. We lived out on a farm in the middle of butt nowhere, and the woman was so obese that she wasn't even capable of fitting up the stairs to get to the bedrooms where the foster children were.

One day, I was going to shower in the bathroom on the top floor. There was a boy who was also there and as I was heading to the bathroom, he said "I am going to slit your throat". I screamed down to her that he was threatening to kill me, and because she was such a cow, she couldn't get up the stairs. I literally had to lock myself in the bathroom until her husband (who could fit up the stairs) got home and could remove the boy from the house.

She was also so fat that she was unable to wear pants and instead, opted for ponchos. I saw that woman's cooter numerous times.

In addition to all that, because we lived on a farm, I was not allowed to play more than 10 feet outside of the house perimeter. The woman's niece and nephew would come to visit and they were allowed to walk down the street to a park (or field or something... I don't know), and I was never allowed to go (even though I was deemed a non-risk child for escape) because she couldn't come to supervise me. I literally became a prisoner.

This is probably a key reason as to why I am so pro-abortion, anti-adoption and anti-foster care/government system and why I want to adopt a kid when I can. I got to see it from the inside and was able to meet a lot of kids who went through a living hell. My heart goes out to these people and it seems so unfair to me that they were just dumped off.
