sorry to say guys, but all i seem to be hearing when it comes to non trance events is what used to be and back in the day blah blah blah, i love trance which is the first reason i'm here, or was in 2004, but like alot of people over time i grew into other genres and it doesn't take away from what brought me here in the first place which is trance, but we all know that trance has taken a different path and has gotten more housey. And whether we like it or not that's the way it is, so bash on Swedish House Mafia and everybody else all you want, but at the end of the day they just booked a venue that NOBODY else was ever able to get, so respect that for what it is. EDM is changing, and its getting bigger... much bigger, and house is taking over right now. Doesn't mean its gonna be like that forever and it wont, genres boom and then whither, so as much as everybody is bitching about this, your kingpins of trance could have never booked MSG no matter how much they tried. Maybe in a few years they can, and hopefully this event is one of many more to come for EDM, but respect it for what it is, I know I will

I still believe that an Armin Only could fill this venue any day of the week.

So much hate on this forum for dj's like SHM, Afrojack, etc. They play what the crowd likes and what makes people dance, theirs a time and place for different genres and to say they are below a DJ like armin because they play a different style is just stupid.

That's true. I don't say they suck balls because they don't play trance, but they still suck balls to me because I still don't like their music. I think it's overhyped, a little too simple, and it's all starting to sound the same to me. There's either the SHM sound (saws with claps on every kick instead of every other kick, risers), avicii sound (happy piano sounds with transparent beat, which I kindaaa like), and that annoying as afrojack/chuckie sound (annoying sirens/pitch modulation). And then comes David Guetta..... pop dance with Taio Cruz. Awesome.

On the other hand, I might not like all of the following artists but at least their styles are so distinct from each other:

Kyau & Albert
Above & Beyond
Ferry Corsten
Sander van Doorn
Armin van Buuren
Arty
Mat Zo
Simon Patterson & Sean Tyas

If I heard a new song by anyone of them I could probably ID the artist first try, if not first try then 100% second try.

However, there is also AWESOME music that's non-trance imo (awesome for me, who some consider close-minded)... I never listened to house or techno in my life (mind you I'm 19 now and I started listening exclusively to trance at 7 years old), but this summer I went to see John Digweed open up for Carl Cox and it was ing amazing. I LOVED Digweed, and Cox was pretty cool. It was his birthday too :)

I gave it a chance because it's different than what I like to listen to, and i loved it. I also gave guetta a chance this summer, and I was disgusted. I gave skrillex a chance at ezoo and I was disgusted. Same with sub focus. I also check out afrojack for a good half hour and i couldnt take it. Avicii is nice, but i still wouldn't pay to see him.

Believe me, I don't think people who don't like afrojack, avicii, or SHM are that narrow-minded. In fact, a lot of them are very open. Open to the point where they prefer to dig in to more underground stuff rather than just hear the mainstream and stop after dismissing the style.

i was under the impression that electronic DANCE music was about.. dancing? about having a good time? about partying with your friends, jumping up and down, singing along and enjoying yourself late into the night.

who cares if some people do it to house and some to trance? of course some DJs have more talent than others, but i base my opinion on how good of a time i have. when i look around and all my friends are smiling, the crowd is into it and im sweating from all the dancing.. that's what i thought this was all about.

maybe the TA mods can make a subforum where everyone can discuss why the music they like is better than everyone elses. but im all for supporting the genre as a whole. sure, there are some pretty bad DJs and some music that just plain out sucks. as is this case with any genre of music. but EDM changed my life for the better, introduced me to so many great people and has given me so many amazing nights and experiences. all of it. whether it was tiesto in 2006 or SHM in 2011.

i get annoyed when bandwagon fans and n0obs start filling up the shows i go to, but theres nothing i can do about it. ill continue supporting all sorts of DJs who work their asses off to make sure we all have something to dance to.

and in regards to SHM - their marketing team is ing RIDICULOUS. for the love of god. and the production behind this show is going to be so big it literally gives me goosebumps as i write this.

i went to their M2 show in 2010 so i hope the special whatever theyre giving the people who went is good.

SHM Pre-Sale Email
Dear Swedish House Mafia Original,

Again we thank you for your support and are pleased to let you know that we will be offering you your own private pre-sale to the Madison Square Garden show announced yesterday. We’re absolutely psyched about working with Cream and a tonne of special guests to bring together 20,000 people celebrating dance music in one place. WOW!

We hope we see you there.

Your pre-sale will be on Wednesday at 9am on Wednesday 28th September

looks like SHM will have guests although the guests will probably be Dirty South, AN21, Max Vangeli and Kim Fai; although they could throw in one big name...Eric Prydz :D. Anyhow, since Cream is putting it together I'm sure it'll be visually awesome. Hmm I definitely would go if I were in the NYC area. It's a big step for EDM, I mean the World's Most Famous Arena is throwing a dance event that's freakin awesome.

Oh I checked out the prices and tickets with fees are 52.90 and 143.20...

Dont get me wrong, if you have been a fan of these guys then its probably going to be an amazing show. Ive read reviews on their shows being wild and all, but its going to total wrong way with having these guys be the first. Sending the wrong message around the country on what the actually music is about, not this garbage that i and alot of you think they play. I just cant see myself wanting to spread the word with this. All the people who thought "techno" and electronic music sucked and was lame just a couple years ago are now hopping on the bandwagon, and what do most of those people listen to, garbage like these guys and afrojack. Id love it now if guys like armin and such can now use that venue, but still it hurts to know SHM will pop MSG's cherry.

Yeah, you're pretty spot-on. I used to be all gung ho about supporting big electronic events because it would mean more big electronic events and more spreading of knowledge of EDM. But the more I supported them, the more downhill they went.

If Swedish House Mafia is a blinding success and sells out the arena, then we're just going to see the obvious next steps: Deadmau5 in concert featuring Tommy Lee and Skrillex, Guetta in concert featuring Destiny's Child, Afrojack in concert featuring Black Eyed Peas. It will only get more expensive and horrible. If Swedish House Mafia tanks and gets half-capacity, maybe the organizers rethink it, or Made Event does a winter electronic music festival with a more varied lineup of artists that sells the place out.

The growth of EDM needs to slow down for its own good.
