So um, he's trying to be Maceo Plex, right? Or am I the only one hearing that?

He is and that song is the last song I wanna hear dropped during a sasha set. IDK why but for some reason a lot of the older djs seem to think its a good idea to make songs that sound like a new Empire of the Sun track.

I didn't mean he was successful.

I meant you weren't the only one who felt that way (by a long shot).

And Maceo Plex isn't even that successful at being Maceo Plex all the time. :p

I like a few of the dudes tunes, but mostly "eh."

How would you feel if your job every week of every year was to gig and your fans tried to pigeon hole you into the sound that they first heard from you 10 plus years ago. He can and should play whatever the hell he wants. Whether or not his fans like it is another story. But as an artist its his job to express, not to conform.

Syntonic
Seems to me like Sasha's been a trend follower for years now; Digweed too. Pains me to say it.

Pretty much. They were leaders of the pack for a good while, but it's unrealistic to assume they would be able to maintain that forever.
