I would like to know your guys opinion about current label situation on the market. I was approach by some (DigitalFrequenz-Records, Illuzion Records, E=QUAL RECORDS, Applepie Recordings, Logical Records, Ear Time Records, Fuzion Four Records, to mention a few) of them and don’t know if anybody knows anything about them. In case of some of them, I know (to some extend) creator of that label and some I have no idea who they are.
I also know that in order to get to some bigger and more recognize label you either have to be crazy talented or supper lucky (or even some sweet connection will help you lol) so maybe for some of us (or most of us) this route through some small labels is the only way to get yourself release or maybe just don’t bother with the small one and keep producing/developing and one day some of the biggest one will come across your production and offer you some sweet deal lol lol lol.
Any thoughts?
Cheers,

what i don't get ,
is like, this big labels you talk of are actually small, so say you aren't as you say super talented, why even bothe ?
Is it really that important for your ego to sell on Beatport ? Btw, Beatport is currently in the process of rearranging the distribution model introducing a middle man, themselves, lol , and basically take more money.
seriously, why the do people sell on beatport. I mean sure , if you are selling other places and it costs you nothing but like really., beatport is so insignificant.
If you aren't getting 1000 paid downloads per release, you really shouldn't be on a label. I just don't get the point. |

Any label whose revenue stream consists mostly of sales on Beatport isn't worth the ink to sign the contract with. It's a ty business model and one that favors both labels and Beatport while the artists typically don't see much of the revenue come their way. |

This is very interesting point you making over here, lets say that you can team with some good players on the market (I'm talking about guys who design SoundBank, have radio shows, ...etc) and create one website (or you can use existing one if that's what is already popular and have lots of traffic on it) which will allow people to listen, download and buy the stuff they really like and only producers and DJ will have access to this deal (and get like 70% of the sold product).
I think that this is doable and relatively easy to setup -> tall me if I'm crazy but buying directly (almost) from producer is much more motivating for me then go through some suppler, distributor and who that heck knows how many more people have to be involved in this process.
I want to make simple and motivating for people to directly support artist and not 5 or more sharks on the way !!!!

Is this true? I've heard a few people grumble about it but not seen any real info yet.
I would love to know what you can truly expect to make if you had a decent small selling track on beatport, with a breakdown of what the label take (if not all of it) and what beatport skim off the top.
Anyone? |

beatport takes 60%, label takes 50% of that usually. wont discuess what im getting, but thats standard. now factor in just a few dozen tracks sold. well now. |

And this is exactly where I'm getting to, this idea of producers selling they product directly to customer/listener, if of course they like that product.
I know for fact, but I don't remember which one, that was one group which decided to give their product only for donations and on the end of the day, they did surprisingly well (base on fact that people really like to support their producers or likeable artist) - I can really see this working guys!!!

and thats IF the label is actually going to pay you, theyre usually nestled in some small city in some distant country, they simply dont give a , you know how hard it is to find someone that wont you? its pretty damn hard.
honestly the best thing to do, is do everything yourself, you seem to have a good idea. beacon everything towards your own site, and work for yourself.
www.prettylightsmusic.com check out his site, all his is free/donate, and hes pretty much one of the biggest upcoming artists in america or so i hear. |

I've heard that most artist can expect $100.00 for a decent song off of sales from Beatport but I'm just thinking about the model here and it makes sense that if you have 500,000 songs by 50,000 artists signed to 5,000 labels, and one Beatport with 50% of the revenues the label earns, trickling back to the artist, each artist will have to sell 4000 records to earn 2000 dollars, every month, meaning that a total of 200,000,000 songs must be purchased every month for 50,000 artists to make a moderately livable wage. The mathematics just don't make any sense as far as sustainability is concerned. |

Exactly, this is that basic idea!! -> now what you have to concentrate on is (from business perspective)is generating some traffic/get more people going through your site and how I can achieve that, well, there is a lot of possibility and options, for example, look how many people are member on this TA site, what about KVR, use FaceBook media strategy which allow them spread the massage very quickly using computers!!! --> guys I'm talking about like 70% profit goes to artist, the guy who deserve it the most --> I'm talking about us here -> can you imagine how motivating this would be if you know that most of the money goes to you????
It can be done!!!

if a label asks you for your work, tell them you want an advance or tell them to off :) we should all be aiming for top-tier products. |

Nahhh, I want to experience the normal/regular way of doing the business, how could I/we create something new if we have no bloody clue how something old was/wasn't working lol --> you can't replace this experience Mac, but you can build something new and improve base on old one or at least know how not do it lol.
Cheers man,
