In which case this is probably relevant:
| quote: | Study: Majority Of Americans Not Informed Enough To Stereotype Chechens
NEWS IN BRIEF • Breaking News: Boston • News • ISSUE 49•16 • Apr 19, 2013
WASHINGTON\Following FBI reports this morning that the suspects implicated in Mondayfs Boston Marathon bombing are of Chechen descent, efforts to thoughtlessly stereotype the alleged terrorists were impeded by the majority of Americansf lack of basic knowledge about Chechnya or the Chechen people, a new study has confirmed. gOur research shows that, while many Americans would like nothing more than to make sweeping, insensitive generalizations about these two individuals based purely on their ethnic identity, this process is largely impeded by the fact that 9 out of 10 Americans truly know next to nothing about Chechnya, including even the very barest details of what or where Chechnya is,h said lead researcher Dr. Tim Kinane, adding that a majority of American citizens are almost totally unaware of Chechen history and culture, how to locate Chechnya on a map, whether Chechnya is a country or a city or a region, or that a person from Chechnya is called a Chechen. gClinical trials show that most individuals will make brief, fumbling attempts to stereotype Chechens based on what little they know about Russians, but eventually drop the subject entirely after running out of anything to say within seconds.h Kinanefs team was able to confirm, however, that once research subjects were told Chechnya is a predominantly Muslim region, they were gusually pretty good to go from there.h |

I didn't know that, thanks for the heads up. I have to say, I take people chanting USA USA as the kind of who are exhibiting the kind of attitude that's the problem here. People with a healthy, reasonable dose of national pride don't do that in situations like this as I see it, because they're smart enough to know how it is perceived. |
I'm pretty sure the people in Watertown weren't thinking of how they would be perceived at the time, they were just ing relieved and happy.
Obviously there are a lot of idiots in America, as there are idiots everywhere, but people shouldn't generalize that just because someone is proud to be American and happy the bombers got caught that they thereby want to kill Muslims. |

| I agree. It is entirely natural to feel relieved that they were caught and that the people of Boston can feel safe. It's also natural to feel a heightened sense of national pride at times like this. But I'm pretty comfortable admitting that America has more than its fair share of closed minded xenophobic idiots that fit the stereotype, unfortunately. I just think that people on the outside looking in need to realize that they are a relatively small subset of our overall population. The majority of Americans are able to see this event in a reasonable context as far as I can see. |

“We just didn’t invite him over after that,” she told the newspaper. “How many people just pick up your cat and go upstairs?” |
