| By the way, the whole scene is not about drugs and if it is you are in it for the wrong reasons. I have been partying for 10 years and the hardest thing i've ever done is tequila. And no, I am not Nancy Reagan...nor does that make me better than anyone else...I don't care what other people do or do not do. Anyways my point is that I have always been in it for the music and the good times. If people are only in it for the drugs they should just stay home. |

Re. the rave scene. Raves WERE drug havens. The crackdown on them led to a lot more searching, which I think is appropriate.
Re. negative attention being unwarranted because there have been no problems yet: WHAT THE has to happen before someone says "whoa, that club is way too crowded!" Passive attitudes like yours - the ones that say "nothing terrible has happened, why fix it?" are the root of this problem. It's like saying "I'm not going to wear my seatbelt today because I have never been in a car accident." Guess what? It only takes one car accident to put you through the windshield.
Not going does not get the message across. Why do I need to wait until the majority of Guv's patrons get dissatisfied and stop going too? I'm not a follower, and if I am unsatisfied with Guv's service, then I'm damn well going to say so, regardless of whether I am the only one who thinks so or not.
It really is quite futile arguing with you and jayx1- the bias is overwhelming, especially with jayx1 because he works there. I can understand why you would not want to disagree publicly, but please take a moment and ponder the possibility that PERHAPS Guv could be doing things that would improve safety without operating at a loss. |
Have you been back to guv since labour of love to see if the situation has changed? I can totally see why you, or anyone would have complained about L of L-- I was displeased and i complained about it as well..but is it fair to keep going on and on about it if things have changed? in 2,5, 10 years will we still be saying that "guv is overcrowded, just look at how bad labour of love was." I don't think I'm biased. I will party at any club in T.O. if they bring talent that I am willing to see. I really don't have any particular attachment and can see the the benefits and drawbacks of all the clubs aI have been to in Toronto, Montreal and NYC. I have in fact defended other clubs in other threads.

Oh yeah, ever since they started searching, hardly anyone can get drugs anymore, right? Good thinking! The media did wonders for the scene!

1. Cussing is not strictly necessary.
2. The point being made here is that it is hardly ever this crowded. You said yourself that you went one time since Labour of Love. You have no authority on this subject, so stfu, plz, thx.
3. This car accident analogy is completely irrelevant. Once again, the point being made is that crowding the Guvernment does not necessarily make it unsafe. The other point being made is that in recent times it has not even been that crowded. Stop ignoring both of those points. Sorry, but looking at one picture doesn't prove a damn thing.
How can you say I'm biased? I've been there one time. I don't even live in Toronto during the year. I'm being completely objective. Christ. I just think that you yourself are blowing things way out of proportion. Just because has happened at other clubs does not mean it will happen at the Guvernment.
Look, all kinds of cars get recalled because they have dangerous defects. The PT Cruiser got recalled because it could explode on side impact. Does that mean we're all going to say "oh, cars are obviously dangerous, it's not safe to be in one of these contraptions because it might blow up any second." Get real. Maybe one in every 50 car models has a defect that is dangerous enough to kill someone - driving in general isn't a safe activity but people do it anyway.
That's all I'm going to say on the subject, I'm not going to argue anymore with someone who clearly doesn't listen. |

True... but there are LOTS of people in the scene just for the drugs. Most of the people that I know go out to certain clubs/parties just to get high/mashed. Then there is a small minority of us that are in the scene for the music only... (ok, booze too, I admit it).
If you took out all the people that are in Guvernment (for example, of course, there are bunch of other clubs that I can list instead) every saturday just to abuse drugs, that club would look pretty empty... |

Ahhh, but then YOU would be the one complaining about there being no scene! |

OMG, so people go there to get drunk/get high/pick up. So what!? What do you think people go to bars for? Are bars illegal? I don't like those types of people, I'm there to see the DJs and meet other people like me, but who cares if other people are there for drugs? If they don't get them there, they will get them somewhere else! |

| Another accident in Rhode Island (sp?).. this time 85 people died. There was a camera crew from a news station too ironically they wanted to show how safe this club was in case of an accident. Jayx1 it doesnt take a fire marshal or an expert of anykind to see that if something similar happened at a party at the guvernment like the ones in the pictures that there is a serious potential for a tradgedy. And if a little media attention and over exaggeration causes some changes in the scene and saves 85 peoples lives it's worth it isnt it? |

And again, Labour of Love and parties with big name DJs usually draw a huge crowd of people too... so there's a huge demand (by people) to see a certain DJ/attend a certain party, and what is Charles gonna do? Just let them all wait outside... maybe, maybe not. They have improved in terms of holding up lineups if it's too crowded in there, and not letting everyone and their mothers/father/grandpas in the club...
Overcrowding - learn to live with it! You don't like it, go somewhere else... I personally have been to the GUV like 4-5 times since the Labour of Love, and the only party that came close to Labour of Love (in terms of overcrowding) was when Deep Dish was here. Other than that, things were pretty normal there, just like any other club in this city. |

Strictly necessary? What does that mean, exactly? ity if I know.

It doesn't need to be crowded every single time for it to be a problem. There is no way Charles would ram it like LOL every single weekend because that is when the majority of customers would stop going. However, when he does it every now and then (LOL, Deep Dish) then people tend to forget how uncomfortable it was last time, and continue to go.

I never said a crowd makes something unsafe. I said a club that is OVERCROWDED is unsafe. How about you argue that point with
the families of the people that died in two tragic nightclub accidents this weekend.
| quote: | | Stop ignoring both of those points. |
I have not ignored them at all. I've said all of the above before (which makes me question why I am posting it again) but you obviously missed it. There it is in more simple format for you.

Do you think because I continue to disagree that I am not listening? Obviously you cannot accept the possibility that someone is listening yet SOMEHOW still disagreeing! :eyes: Perhaps you should consider a career in law....god knows Charles will need a good lawyer if anything ever happens at Guv. |

Hahahaa! I like that one...
Well, hopefully, nothing will happen in there... after all, they've been running the club for 6+ years now, I mean, they should have a clue at what works and what doesn't in that place. And I see your point too, since you can never be too sure and too safe, especially with that many people in one room.
And in regards to DigiNut's post, well, I don't mind people abusing drugs, but I do mind them abusing those drugs in my presence and being surrounded by them all the time, which is what I feel like in the Guv sometimes. |

ok u know what???this thread has just gotten redundant and its another issue which cannot be resolved in a debate because ther IS no common ground being sought...i think all of u (and me of course) should just give this topic a rest...
if u want to take action on guv, so do it...write in the papers, approach fire marshalls, form small petitions whatever...
if u dont , so be it...nobody is forcing u to..
now can we all reach a peaceful conclusion???
LKDs thought for the thread : see labour of love was bs and overcrowded...ther have been times later on when it has been over crowded as well but if u look at it the overcrowdedness has always been on ly in the guv main room and not the kool haus... all i can conclude this with is....see u all on the 8th of march |

I totally agree. If I wasn't the only one voicing the anti-Guv opinion in this thread I wouldn't feel the need to respond so often. Ah well... |
