Yep, and then you take a look at the car that he's driving... and you realize why in the world would someone overcrowd the club like that...

It's all about the Benjamin$!

well.. i have seen a lot of valid points raised but I think that things are getting a little out of hand. Yes, it's an absolute joke that CK said that there are more exits than wall space. I just happen to be hitting up guv this saturday, and since I will be stone cold sober I will make sure that I take a stroll around the main room and look for exits (which frankly, I should have done long before, since I have been going there for some time now). It goes without saying that Labour of Love was terribly unsafe and it was lucky that there were no disasters. However, waging a full attack against guv is unfair IMO. It is not fair to say that Guv is rammed on a regular basis. In my experience of going to Guv regular nights are usually fine w/ lots of space to dance and reasonable lines (i do however wish that they had more bathrooms for the size fo the club- for ex. Tonic has a great bathroom to club ratio). Sometimes special events in teh main room are too crammed, but nothing like L of L. Special events in KH have been fine in my experince.

I think that opinions should be voiced, but I hope that ppl do not overexagerate...esp. if part of this hostility is b/c they don't like the crowd at Guv. It's not for everyone. I have met both undesirables at Guv and people w/ amazing energy that have become my friends. Ginos and ppl older than my parents are not a safety issue.

I am trying to be an unbiased as possible. I frequent the guv, but I am not a regular in the sense pics of me holding glowsticks and grinning will be found on any guv fansite. I go to see DJ's, not clubs...so I am of the belief that trying to bring a club down is bad for the scene...whether I like to party there or not. I am just as annoyed to see ppl unrelentlessly ragging on the guv as I was to see some ignorant person posting on the guv website that Viva should be burned down.

charmscars...i think people are not overexaggerating.

see thing is most of us appreciate the fact that guv is bringing in the big names, but if u cant enjoy the music due to lack of space to dance, i think it does raise anger when u pay over 30 bucks on many occasions....

I do appreciate the concern that people have for safety, and I can see how anyone who attended L of L would have a bad impression of Guv..I was pretty angry myself. But don't you think that it's a bit of a generalization to say that it's like that all the time? You know how I feel about guv cuz I've talked your ear off about it before (sorry about that btw:) ) I am trying to be as open-mined about it as possible. Would you agree that most events in KH are ok?

If a disaster like at Chicago were to happen to the Guv, it would be awful. The club would close; this would indirectly lead to the closure of many other clubs, maybe even Viva, and lastly would ruin Toronto's already well established party reputation.

We are mearly concerned for our healthy future partying.

Well then, should we then wait for a disaster to come to our doorstep by covering for Guvernment just because they are bringing in international talent? I think that many would disagree. If they close, then good - sometimes they need a kick in the head to wake them up to the fact that people are not going to take a backseat to safety in clubs. The problem is, owners like Charles feel that they have nothing to worry about since they can get away with overpacking a venue, making a ton of cash and not even getting a slap on the wrist. Besides clubs like Viva, System, and Tonic have brought in some big talent and continue to do so. As long as promotion outfits like Goldclub exist, other clubs can easily bring in big talent.

I have not seen any other club come close to overpacking their capacity as I did at Labor of Love. They were so lucky that it what happened in Chicago did not happen that night. Having been in there, I personally witnessed people being pushed down, fainting from the heat and barely made it out of a stampede by climbing on one of the speakers.

Trust me, I've been to the regular club nights at Viva and at no time was I in fear for my safety nor did I feel that I could not move around without being trampled as I did at Guvernment. I understand the Destiny party was a bit out of control but that's a different affair. What Guvernment did at Labor of Love was inexcusable and though I don't recall them giving out any free tix for their next event, it doesn't matter how many free tickets you give out for your next event, personally I would rather you fix the problem and limit the number of people next time. Myself and a couple of others had voiced this in a TRIBE issue a few months back after the event and hopefully it got across to Goldclub if not Guvt. Sometimes you need to hit their promoters as well as they need to know the kind of events they are REALLY associating their name with.

Don't forget that clubs like Guvernment can afford to pay off the local 'authorities' to look the other way when you think of the money they made in that one night. Strangely enough there was not a squad car to be seen nor a single uniformed cop in sight all night. Funny when you think that they usually have them around almost every other weekend....

I don't think its a generalization at all, its pretty much packed for every special event, every time I've gone to see Ferry or Armin, or Picotto its been packed to the point where you can't dance and enjoy the music, just do the math, on regular Sat nights the club is pretty much full, now add to that all the people who come to see the headlining DJ.....I think its pure stupidity on Guvs behalf to have special events in the main room, either hold them on a different night than the regular night or hold them in the KH. The KH events are always more spacious.
