Well I was there at there for Labour of Love too, and I didn't feel like that at all... I don't know where the hell you ended up that night, and who was busting your chops, but I was just enjoying all that dancing space in the KoolHaus. I did make a few visits to the Main room, and obviously it was overcrowded (one of the reasons being all these people from KH wanted to go to Main room, thus making more space and taking away space in Main room).
But what did you expect anyway... you have such a great party, such an amazing lineup of DJs, so many people interested in attending it, and would you expect Charles not to let half of them in just because it's not safe enough? that , it's a business, and it's all about the Benjamin$$$, so if I was him, I'd squeeze each and every one of you into that club and milk you out of your money as much as possible!
Sure, I won't visit the club for a long time now, or until another special event comes along (for a bunch of other reasons beside overcrowding), but hey, I totally understand Charles' perspective too... |

i wanna take back my statement at the beginning of this thread where I said we should write a letter to NP. After giving it some though (and reading some of the posts); getting the media involved is just gonna make things worse. If they start taking a closer look at clubs like Guv and System and Viva, then there's a good chance that we're gonna go through something like the States is going through right now; shutting down every club because of excessive drug use.
The idea of inviting a reporter down to Guv is the stupidest thing I've ever heard. Not only will they write about it being packed; but they'll also talk about how more than half the club is on E, K, LSD or whatever. The reporter is gonna write about the 50 year old lady that was standing beside him smoking a joint (which isn't that big of a deal nowadays, but still...). He'll talk about the numerous times that someone asked if he's buying or selling anything. This is gonna cause the City of Toronto to get involved and sooner or later you'll be kissing these clubs good-bye. Unless you guys want that, it's better to just stay quiet.
Oh, and whenever I'm at Guv, there's always a bouncer telling me to move away from the doorway or whatever. No matter how many exits there would be at this place, if something major happend then someone would get hurt. Guv isn't the only place like this; you think Trance Energy or some bigass event like that has a personnal exit for each attendee? Thats the risk big venue's take when there's a lot of people inside, and thats the risk each attendee takes. Just hope nothing happens, and if something does; then remain calm and do the logical thing to stay alive.
Edit: And why is everyone bringing up Labour of Love?? This event happend like half a year ago and there's been many events following that where it was A LOT better...so stop saying the LoL overcrowding needs to stop cuz it already stopped on the following big event (oct. 6th) |

It is when you work there.
I am not concerned with what the media's intentions are. I am concerned with the end result - clubs being monitored closer to ensure patrons are not treated like sardines. If some venues close in the meantime, so be it. As I said, I'd rather have 5 safe venues to go out to than 15 overcrowded ones.
Obviously Charles is out to make a profit. You don't have to know much about business to know that, and I never said he should be operating at a loss to make his customers feel more comfortable in his club. However, if YOU knew anything about business you would know there is a balance between profits and service and Guv is very close to crossing that line. |

Then maybe it would encourage people to be a bit more discreet about their drug use, or perhaps do their drugs outside of the venue. that's how it should be anyways.
Or perhaps it would bring heat on clubs to search more thoroughly. That'd be a good thing too...or are you worried about someone figuring out that E-in-your-sock trick?? |

| Holy bitterness. Why can't Canadians just be happy that we are a little bit more free than a lot of people in this world. We complain too much! |

Wow, you would fail out of business school on the first day. That is by far the most ignorant thing anyone has said in this thread thus far. Please read what I just wrote two posts ago....relentless pursuit of profits at the expense of service and basic respect for customers will cost you your business in the long run.
We should not come to expect a club and risk our personal safety to hear a DJ. Something should be done about it, and if Charles won't listen, then the National Post will. |

lol, thats how it should be? maybe you should stop clubbing, cause you're never gonna find a club thats 100% drug free

actually, i don't do drugs...and i don't care how the people at the club do their drugs; whether it's discreetly or not.

well, go have a chat with NP; start a protest for "club safety" while you're at it. Get the church involved too; maybe if they run clubs then all the overcrowding will go away, and you can feel as safe as u'd like. And If clubs start shutting down in Toronto then don't in cry.
You're making too much of a big deal out of this; like there's an accident just waiting to happen at these clubs. |

I know it would, and it already cost Charles a lot (he lost my respect long time ago), but if you look at it the same way I look at it, he has something that MANY people in this city want - an amazing venue where you can hear some of the best tunes in the country, and most of those people will give in to that overcrowding factor in exchange for a great place to do drugs/get drunk/enjoy the music/pick up girls/whatever else the reason is people go to that place on a regular basis...
Now, if Charles & GUV had some serious competition in this city (just like in the real business world) he would have to work a bit harder and please his customers more... but since he holds the monopoly on the whole clubbing scene in this city (more or less), he can do whatever he wants to! And no, VIVA is not a serious competition since it's way up north, too far from the entertainment district (which attracts the most of the people anyway).
And in regards to clubs being more drug-free - good luck with that! |

| Maybe if we weren't all so damn spoiled in this city we would quit whining.....go to just about any other north american city and then come back here and tell me how good we have it. Let's face it, we are spoiled brats. We should be happy with what we have. And if the Guvernment weren't safe it wouldn't be allowed to stay open. Tell that to the National Post. |

Friends,Country men,Members of the Media,,,,,,,
We're so concerned about being too spolied and pampered all the time...We've had our fun through the years, raving/clubbing the nights away in the streets of this beautiful city we call home....
Please do something! Take some action and show us the way...
Who cares about democracy...Bring out the tanks....
Give us what we want; "Blood on the dance floor"
Laubor of love was no fun and I agree with all of you about the safety issues, but trust me when I say that I've been to every single event after that and the only one that was a bit of a concern for over crowding was Deep dish back in December of last year...It's gotten much better than six months ago...Speak your mind, talk to the owners of the club (any club)..They will listen and have no choice but to take the proper action. They're in the business of making $$$ and you and I are the ones helping them makeing the $$$$ |
