come on guys.
Yes, Labour of Love was a disaster. But i dont think that safety is not on the minds of guv's operators. If you havent noticed you are not allowed to block the entrances in guv and none of the doors are chained or have dirty laundry bags behind them like they were in chicago. Guv is the only club that i regularily go to that has a triage and a full time paramedic there. If you have ever been in the back of guv you will notice the 2 bed triage room equiped with medical equipment and staff. Throughout the entire night staff is picking up off the floor to avoid potential hazards.
I personally think they have their together incase of something happening. Not because they care its because of liability and compliance with bi-laws. Im pretty sure Guv has had its run ins with local politicians and officials. IMO they are waiting for guv to fuk up so they have a reason to do whatever they may want to.
I have had some pretty ty things happen to me at many different club but never once at guv.
I do agree with the overcrowding thing though but if you notice ferry corsten is now in koolhaus. |

If you dont like the place dont go.
There is no need to contact the National Post.
We are old enough to make decisions. If you feel you are in danger than dont go to guv.
Who does that? |

why are you so worried about the national post being contacted??
i think a lot of the people who are concerned with guv's overcrowding habit are also concerned with everyones safety - not just their own.

I can assure you i am not worried. I just cant see the logic behind contacting the media. I personally like going to guv. I would hate to see a stink made up about it. Next thing you know someone will be crying about viva and will happen there too.
I hate having to party in a scene that that media and politicians are quick to judge. Why do they have to run events that they know nothing about. Look at the states. They want to ban all night parties due to the drugs. They have painted a picture of parties being drug feasts. How about the people who want to party sober and enjoy it.
I agree with safety measures. If anyone is concerned about something approach charles and tell him. |

Last time I checked, the purpose of writing a letter to the editor was to express an opinion. People want to express their disapproval of the actions of Guv and its owner, and an ideal place to do that would be in the National post, where the story first appeared. |

I think it's fine to write letters. I mean anyone can write that guv surpasses capicty on all special events but can you prove it? One pic of LofL doesn't not statiscally show too much. If the Post goes to guv on corsten or armin then they will know for sure. If they are overcrowding, then they will see for themselves, if not then there's no story.
It's cool if some ppl don't want to go to the guv. I personally am not willing to give up seeing armin or james holden (sweeet!).

Why contact the National Post? Well when buddy that own's the club says there is more exits than wall space we know its a lie. When he says that there are rooms that can safely hold 2500 people, yet he continues to cram more than 2500 people in their, another lie. Labour of Love wasn't the only time the place was overcrowded, what about Deep Dish, Howells etc. Show me a place to dance much less walk or breath in that place on those nights?
As for Viva or any other club for that matter i.e. Systems. We all know that they don't over crowd them and they are for the most part 1 room facilities. So there's nothing to cry about. People have told me that they have actually been turned away from Viva and Systems when there at capacity. I can't recall ever hearing a story of someone being turned away because of capacity at the Guvernment.
The National Post is covering a story about overcrowding and not following regulations and codes. You can go on and on about not seeing laundry bags behind doors or chained doors, but how would you know? Have you ever actually tried to go out the fire exit before? Aside from that not every door at the Guv leads directly outside, some lead to hallways which funnel you out side...Think about it a whole load of people in a big room trying to get through a door, and into a smaller hallway and then outside. Sounds like a recipe for disaster.
Many of us have complained about the crowds at the Guv before, and simply approaching the owner 1 on 1 won't do anything. In the end there are two things that he wants $$$$ and Good Publicity. Judging by the fact that people are willing to fork out $15+ to stand shoulder to shoulder with 3000 other people simply not going isn't going to stop him from making money or change his business practices, on the other hand, giving him some bad publicity will probably change the way he does business. And judging by many patrons and DJ's comments something should be done. |

| i think we all have to remember that because of the media , politicians are saying such things as "Raves are only crackhouses with background music, nothing more" |

You mean they aren't still? :tongue2
I don't know many Crackhouses that charge $15 cover and are presided over by International Trance, House and Techno DJ's, but then again I've never been to Amsterdam. |

ok.. i hate being in the position of sticking up for guv..but I have to answer to this.
1) people do get turned away at guv. I have read posts about it, and i know ppl that were turned away at various events. i think at times security does this via enforcing the style code. They will turn ppl away w/ runners, meanwhile, there are lots of ppl in runners inside. They also seem to crack down on id as well. Why have i never been turned away? i come early, and i'd imagine being female doesn't exactly hurt my chances either.
2) my friend wrote the guv regarding safety policies. They offered to speak w/ him in person and give him a tour of the first aid facilities. why not take this avenue 1st and if the club proves unresponsive then take other actions (press, boycott etc.) b/c bad press for the clubs is bad press for the scene. saying theey are unresponsive w/o giving them a chance to respond is unfair. did you directly conatct CK? what was his repsonse?
i still think there is a bit of jumping-the-gun... i can't help my hippie mentality;)
