True but more people view this forum and I think this is the sort of subject that people who do not usually get involved in the political discussions would like to contribute to.

Anyway - my view.

Before the war began I was quite strongly anti-war. I have to say i my viewpoint has shifted a little after the things I have seen on the news, but I do take everything that is reported to me on the television with a pinch of salt. I do believe that for a lot of people, the co-allition forces have liberated them and set them free from a rejeem (< is that how you spell that? :D) they were unhappy with. But I also think that we are definitely not reported everything by the media, there are probably lots of things that would be demeaning for the image of this war that we have not been told.

All in all - I still think we were probably wrong to go to war - I think war should be a last resort that should only be an option when EVERYONE agrees there is no other way to go about it. However, in light of the war, I think it has done some good.

what you see on tv is some hundreds iraqis, maybe a thousand rejoicing. Baghdad is a 4-5 millions habitant city. And the shots were filmed in the "Saddam city" quarters of the city composed of Chiite people who were repressed during Saddam's regime. so yeah you'll see people happy, but its not everyone and its far from being a mass movment. Also the whole of Baghdad isn't captured, yet.

But seeing that big saddam statue going down is something impressive and serve well to the allied intrests :)

about the peace movment, FYI there's still peace rallies and protests that will go on this saturday. This war isn't over and there's talks of more wars going on against Iran, Syria and North Korea. They have still lots to manifest against.

How can you expect people to reply to this post intelligently as you say, when your post is the complete oposite. It is purely opinionated and you have no evidence to back it all.

PLease think before you post

i think u might be looking for the word "regime" :)

even if more people view this, there was a reason for political discussions -such as this- to be removed form chillout. Mostly because they ususally get too 'heated' for CHILLout ;) -laf

first off, theres a sticky thread for all war related posts in here, once i have posted this i will merge so that this thread is within that.

secondly, as it is currently showing in france, a lot of the french population are cursing jack chirac for not supporting the war, for many reasons. the people say that france will now lose out economically, and have damaged relations with the UK & US.. which is for the most part true.

if france/germany/russia had supported the war in the first place then the UN would have had its precious last say over what happens in iraq after the conflict. so i think they are bang out of order for wanting that last say now. they are currently complaining that humanitarian aid isnt getting into places because of the dangers still in iraq.. well IMO the red crescent/oxfam etc should bite the bullet, and go in with military escorts. i know they say they want to be seen as independant bodies etc etc, but if the escorts are needed to stop people dying, then they should remove the stick from their asses, and throw their precious 'neutral' stance out the window.

as far as putting together a water-tight anti-war argument.. i dont think anyone ever could. regardless of the reasons for this war, being oil, being WMD, being for the good of the people, whatever, any anti-war person can't deny that the world will now be a better place without saddam having such a grip of fear on 'his' people.
