No I think we cause Jon to kill babies. If you want Jason, we can cause you to kill babies too or would you rather take care of those cute puppies you always hated?

there's no point even arguing with you guys about this. You're all so blindly oblivious (shall we say OBTUSE) about the dangers of drugs and you'll foolishly sit there and tell anyone that there's nothing dangerous about them at all.....when in fact, any smart person knows there are risks.

Are you even worth arguing with? HAhahAAhaha! Hardly. Look. You're basing everything on IDEOLOGY. What's more, you're HEGEMONIC. You think you're right because your thoughts are yours. Being the History whiz that you are, I'm wondering why you have such a weak grasp of dialectic (a la Hegel). 'Truth' follows from dialectic, it follows from the warranted play between opinion and fact (Toulmin). It does not follow from ideology. As Althusser would say, you're basing your argument on imaginary relations to the real. What's more, you're hegemonic, speaking with Bakhtin's authoritative word, and not willing to subject your thougts to the process of dialectic. You think you're right, you think you've alreay the warrant justifying the transferral from opinion/claim to truth/fact, and you'll ride your case to your grave, even despite the fact that it's "full of sound and fury, yet signifying nothing," (Shakespeare).

Besides, any 'smart person' knows that their grades are not truly indicative of intelligence. Smart people know that grades are a product of an evaluated functioning within a system.

Just a comment on this - not towards you Smitty - but I think Ontario is absolutely shameful for carrying on their business as usual on remembrance (sp) day. How are children supposed to learn that is an occasion that should be marked in their calendars?

I'm suprised my office set aside a 2 minute moment of silence at all.

I may be a business grad, but I think the commercialism and industry that Ontario thrives on is sick if it can't shut down for a day like Nov 11th.

Great flamewar guys!
Funny and educational (for some of us!)

Why am I a biggot? Tell me then, mr PC....where did democracy, law and order come from? China...Africa..Japan? nope. I'm just speaking the truth.

Well this is what I was trying to say earlier. Since going to England and France is not that big of a stretch from Canada other than the language and population density.

how many of you have actually been outside of Canada? I know quite a few people who haven't even been to the US. I'm probably more well travelled than over half of you on this site. By mentioning England, I should have said the UK, because I also went to Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

It came from Greece. And you are speaking YOUR truth which isn't something anybody considers invincible because you do not provide evidence to make it stand up to criticsm better (this is the entire point). If you're a history major and write essays I'd hope you'd realize by now how to back up what you say with evidence and give credit to your argument (so far you haven't done that).

mm hmm yes...Greece.....the very roots of democracy, albeit a VERY BASIC democracy. Did you know that Greeks had their so-called democracy (which was mostly exclusionary) but had slavery at the same time? Interesting paradox, is it not?

Democracy as we know it today came from England...simple as that. Any historian will tell you that.
