^^^^ Oh, but it's ok for StereoPrincess and others to call history pointless? As I said...people are doing the exact thing I'm doing in some cases, but everybody is ganging up on me. Seriously, you guys are just a bunch of cleaky snobs. |
I didn't read that what she said, but if she did say that, then I do disagree. History is not pointless. It's important to know our past. But somehow I think you took that out of context. |

Its a public sector job, which for the most part means this:
"Im good at taking really long breaks, and getting paid for them"
alternativly it could mean
"Your taxes paid me to slack off and do dick all for lots of money"
HOORAH I LOVE CITY JOBS!
for a day I held a sign on the side of a road, you know the slow/stop sign
$28 an hour
to stand there and direct traffic. I quit because I felt like a moron, maybe a rich moron, but a moron none the less
how much you get paid does not reflect how much you add to society.
keep driving your zamboni smitty...and if you think making $25 000 a year is a good income, well good on ya. Why even bother with the degree? Im sure you can drive a zamboni full time with out a degree. Youre just wasting your money is school my friend! History degrees do nothing for Arena Operations Workers! |
$25,000 a year is an amazing income for a student (which, as I have said REPEATEDLY, I AM) with two working middle class parents. Maybe some of you are from a rich and spoiled background (maybe that's why most of you are total losers)...but I'm not. I'm a very independent person and am pround that MY DADDY or MOMMY isn't paying for my education.
I can't believe you ing losers are making fun of my job...at least I have one while in school and I manage to attain high marks while working 24 hours a week. Public Sector....you know, they call it the Public Sector for a ing reason you dicksmack....because I provide a public service...people WANT to play hockey, so I work part time to make and maintain good ice for them. And as I have said, I'm responsible for their PERSONAL SAFETY when they are in the building. Ammonia compressors are a very COMPLICATED system and it takes a lot of intelligence and training to identify problems...I'd like to see you take a machine reading one time.
And if you quit your summer City Job at 28 dollars an hour (which sounds like a bunch of steaming bull to me), well then you're an idiot for doing so. I bet working at McDonalds is so much better eh...makes you feel like you're doing a great thing for society making those fat burgers, but making a new road isn't worth your time? You're a ing retard.
And another thing...haven't I said NUMEROUS ING TIMES that it is my part time job that I am using to put me through school...but it's such a high paying job availabe to a student that it leaves room for car and rent payments, plus more? The only reason you wads are attacking me is because you're jealous...plain and simple. |

Now we know why Smitty hates philosophy.
If you actually took a basic Logic course you're main premise wouldn't be along the lines of,
"You're stupid because you're a cocksucking son of a bitch ass . Therefore you're ing wrong ." |

Mm hmm yeah...last time I heard from my cousin who was a language TA at UWO and UofT during her Masters program, she was paid about $19,000 a year. Professors themselves make no more than $100,000.....do you seriously expect me to believe that they can afford to pay you nearly 30 dollars an hour...I can see that if you work 3 hours a week. I work 24-32 you y. |

Do you ing research buddy. I'm a graduate student at U of T. TAing pays you about 32 dollars an hour. Granted you can't do it too much but you also get paid as a research assistant (which is what your friend is talking about). Invigilating is something totally different. That's the job where I just watch undergrads write their exams and I get paid 28 bucks an hour. Easy work.
And you are a moron thinking that profs pay out of their own pockets for students. Ever hear of grants? Each professor has several operating grants which include salaries for students (the actual school also pays a percentage) or the student has their own grants that they obtain. The prof gets his own salary from the school and usually its around 100 thousand but that's their own money that they earn. It has nothing to do with paying the students. |

Profs DO pay out of their own pockets...in first year I was an assistant to my history professor....I made photocopies for tutorial readings and helped him do secondary research on a paper he was doing dealing with the 1837 Rebellion in Ontaro. I was paid $15 an hour...but why are you comparing your salary to mine? Havent I said that I'm an UNDERGRADUATE.....when I start my Masters in two years, I could be making just as much as your stupid ass, but I'm not there yet. But for where I am, only a third year undergraduate, I'm doing quite well thank you and find it totally revealing of your characters that you try to say that my job is worthless.
I'd ask that everyone here list their part time jobs if they are STILL STUDENTS, but I'm afraid that everyone will just lie about their jobs, since they probably work in fast food and I have already set the bar so high. It's natural to be jealous you know. |

You have set the bar so high with that zamboni job for sure. I can't top that.
Of course the prof is going to pay you out of his own pocket for photocopying and looking up old books. I would like to see him try getting a grant for that. TAing is different. You guide students in classes. Its like you are the talker for the prof since they don't have time to deal with undergrads.
OK, so you really think that my supervisor is going to pay out of his own salary to pay me 1300 dollars a month while there are 7 other students in the lab plus pay for all the ing materials we use. Are you ing nuts? We write applications for hundreds of thousands of dollars for such things, you idiot. Why must you argue with me. Don't you think I may know just a little bit more then you since you are an undergrad. The thing that you should be doing is asking me for advice and not being a snotty little . You aren't going to get far with your attitude. A supervisor is not going to take you on if you have this sort of outlook on life. |

Any questions people have, any accomodations the City can make...risk management situations such as icey walkways and wheelchair accessibility.....that's all my responsibility. I'm also responsible for first aid and CPR in case of injury (which I am fully qualified in)...in case of a fire or gas leak, it is MY job to evacuate the building and to be the last one out. This involves wearing a WW1 type gas mask and going into a potentially lethal environment and shutting down the compressors, which if not dealt with in a leak situation, could explode. Maybe you recall the death of Tim Hickman, who died when the zamboni exploded?
If that's not dealing with the public....I don't know what is.
   |
Chill dude. when you say "I'm a zambonie driver" - don't expect people to think you do more than drive a zambonie. Thank you for your explanation - I didn't know all of that was part of your job well, because you didn't tell me.
However, you still haven't really explained how having all of this will help you get a position as a historian. |
