I remember someone explaining why E itself is not lethal. The person explained the current consensus on how E affects your brain and showed that E itself will not kill you, no matter how much you take. If one were constantly taking E for a prolonged period, maybe the fact that one wouldn't want to eat would kill someone, or maybe the raised body temperature would eventually kill, but all that is a composition of effects that are very unlikely to happen.
You claim that 'schrooms are inherently safer than E because they grow naturally. You also claim that E is unsafe, since one cannot trust his/ her dealer. People went on to explain how pills can be tested for content and how that helps one find 'good/ safe' pills. If one is uneducated, schrooms can kill too.
Here is my analogy: I go into the woods having heard about 'magic muschrooms' and start randomly picking muschrooms and eating them. There is quite a good chance (at least in my home country) that I will pick up a poisonous one and die.
That is the equivalent of someone walking around in a club and buying pills of dealers.
Now if I get my little trusty "Muschroom picking for Dummies (tm)" guide out and go into the woods, look at the schrooms and get the ones that i KNOW are not poisonous, or -even better- I pick schrooms, take them home and TEST them in my trusty little lab for toxitity (probably not the right word) and THEN decide which ones I can and cannot eat, I am doing the smart thing. Equivalently, an E-user, who tests his or her pills can hedge himself against the risk of injesting garbage.
does that make sense?
In the end, I do not want to change your oppinion, as it is YOUR choice to do stuff, I just don't want you telling everybody that E is LETHAL, when that is not true. And the whole "E can kill you even if enjoyed responsibly" junk isn't really valid either. Even if you smoke responsibly, you can die too, there is no difference. |

Smitty, I'd just like to remind you that E isn't illegal because it's dangerous and risky and lethal, it's illegal because people discovered it's fun side as it was being administered by DOCTORS for counselling purposes.
E, as anything else, has its side effects that need to be considered before using. But it is certainly no more DEADLY than driving a car, binge drinking or crossing the road.
No one is trying to convince you to do drugs Smitty. Don't flatter yourself; we don't care one way or the other. But we are trying to point out that your arguments are not based on fact. They're actually DISPROVEN by fact. |

I would say tho, that walking around a club looking for pills is not equvalent to walking around a forrest looking for non-poisionous mushrooms, b/c teh incidence of pills that are dangerous vs would be much smaller than teh incidence of finding plants/mushrooms that are unsafe to eat.

and if I talk about scientific problems you don't even understand anything. You generalize all of us "science types" by one example. Even without a scientific education, you should know better than to generalize based on a Sample size of 1, when the population size is probably close to 100 million (worldwide).
You ask why scientists don't run countries? Because we are better at doing other stuff than to try and deceive the masses into thinking that we have their interests in our minds. There are no qualifications for a politician apart from being able to speak well and make people believe that you are the right choice. It varies a lot from country to country.
Why are social scientists and businessmen in politics? Because they SUCK at their subject and cannot make it in industry. In the end, if they were up for the challenge that they need to face when working in the private industry, they get cold feet and slip into politics, where facts are pretty much irrelevant.
Why do scientific people shut up in political debates, because we explain what we know and show the data. We do not make up people's minds for them, we are here to ANALYZE things and show how it works. Our goal is to explain "how it works". |

this is very well put and it encapsulates what ppl have been trying o drive home. most likely it will be ignored by him or he will say how only stupid ppl binge drink or something like that. |

I am aware of that, but i did not want to make my paragaph look as if I felt that I was all "high and mighty" etc.
since our little history major thinks that all statistics are wrong -provided that they collide with his view of the world- such a comment would have just made him disregard my post completely.
unfortunately i did not read his attacks on scientists until afterwards.. anyhow, I hope that the "analody" concept is still within his grasp. (this personal attack was made, only because you think that all the "scientific types" are total retards when it comes to anything but their field) |
