You were not born Atheist because you were not even told about God or religion so according to definition you could have not denied it or disbelieve it unless introduced to a religion.
There were people in WW2 that can prove for a fact the day/year ended and there is also encylopedias that state facts. |

you seem to not understand the difference between a "lack of belief" and "disbelief." To disbelieve is to believe that something is false, while to lack belief means that one simply does not believe.
I am an atheist. I believe it is possible, but, from what my experience has shown me, i do not believe in god. i lack a belief in god.
about the being born an atheist: a baby, just born, would have no introduction to god. that child lacks the belief in god. He does not disbelieve, because he does not even know the concept. But he lacks belief for that same reason.

Nah, generally people don't give a if you’re religious or non-religious. The real problem is that politicians sometimes tend to be a little over zealous when lawmaking and thus making secular people angry...i.e. Dubaya. Luckily the there’s a small thing in the U.S. Constitution called separation between church and state that evens the playing field.
I guess the Constitution is my bible. :stongue: |

Aren't the southern states particulally, well, 'hostile' towards atheists?
I happened to be up at 5 am this morning, and for some reason every show on TV were weird American bible bashing shows, with people being 'saved' to be 'used by the lord'. I'm scarred for life. :nervous:
I also got some spam email quoting someone named Pat Boone (Ok, not that, but something roughly like that. :p) saying that all atheists should 'shut the hell up' and respect the lord. I also read about faith based prisons sanctioned by the state, Bush saying that atheists shouldn't be considered citizens, and judges putting up statues of the ten commandments on public/court house land.
That kind of crap would never happen here. To me, that does sound like hell on earth. :eek: |

Yeah, it is true that Southerners tend to be more religious than everyone else in the country, especially compared to the north east where I live. But as a whole, southerners are not hostile towards atheists; they may disagree with my views and will say how things should be and that would be it. Yeah there are handful of individuals (televangelists) who believe that atheists should be damned to hell but they are a very small minority, almost to the point where it is negligible.

The “faith based prisons” are an experiment by the state of Florida, which not too surprisingly is in the deep South. You have the option to go to this prison; no one forces prisoners to go. Many prisoners do go to this prison because when they want to go through rehabilitation programs in the prison so they can have a reduced sentence or are let go on parole. After prison they often become ministers. The point is Florida is trying to reduce its prison population and is finding a good hearted way of doing it and in a way, making a deal with prisoners.

Bush can say whatever he wants to say, its his 1st amendment right. But those kinds of words have no value against civil liberties and the U.S. Constitution.

There was an Alabama judge (what a surprise, the South) that had a 10 Commandments statue in a courthouse. A federal judge ordered the removal of it because it violated the separation between church and state, the Alabama judge refused. The statue was then removed by federal officials and the Alabama judge lost his job.

Still, i'm thankful that I live here rather in the US, I like being surrounded by people who don't give a stuff about religion. :D |

Thats why I like living in this part of the U.S., the West Coast and Mid-Western areas share simular views. |
