So basically, what if we are an immune system response by the universe to fend off some future "illness"?
You should keep in mind that human beings as you know them today have only been 10,000 years in the making, and have only enjoyed the beginning of rough "civilized" technological advancement for 300 years. It's not really fair to judge a species that is still so close to monkeys this harshly; would you beat a dog for not knowing how to piss in the toilet bowl? :D
Give it a million years, or 400 million years like past species had before fallout, and then perhaps you will be glad an asteroid didn't wipe us out. |
i dont know what youve been watching, but this world is getting worse and worse as time goes on. maybe technologically, and knowledge-wise, we are progressing, but we still are on the verge of world-wide pandemics, natural disasters are increasing. the last 10 years have seen more hurricanes, and destruction from earthquakes, etc. than any other time. the great asian quake, iran, pakistan, california quakes, japan, one giant one after another. global warming is heating things up. we are aware, but are we doing something about it?? not enough..
and really, we wont. we're going to be fighting wars until the very end, and there will be a very end. and we are in the second to last lap. very scary to think about it.:nervous: |

| The consciousness of humans is a fleeting spasm of thought that coordinates flesh into controlled movement. As humans have a highly advanced genetic form, their movement patterns are superior over other species on this planet. A goat may one day evolve & it's flesh movement will become advanced to the point it becomes the virus fighter. Like a super hero ninja, the goat will be able to fly kick the evil universe invading aliens in the balls. All other future 'illness' will be ingested by the goat to rot for one million years in it's stomach. |

Thanks for sharing your narrow opinion based on what you've experienced in your 20 years of life on earth. We can thus disregard my hypothesis completely.
Remember, your politics and fears are the results of living in a 21st century industrialized world. You have no idea what is to come; you probably have no idea what is actually happening now either, since no one does. |

such a hypocritical thing to say, considering your previous post was ALL theory and opinion. At least he has some facts to back his opinion up.
As for whats happening NOW? Uhhh, we're killing this planet, and ourselves...thats whats happening. Is there a chance that one day, we as a race will do a complete 180? Probably. Is it gonna happen in our lifetimes? Not likely. |

The human race deserves death. |
Technically speaking we are always hit by space matter, but most of it disintergrates in the atmostphere. Our earth also travels in an elliptical orbit and we are very lucky that on every revolution the earth somehow avoids intersecting these large asteroids. Just stay tuned for the Sun flaming out which will happen in about 5 billion years. |

| I do not see anything wrong with the way we are treating the environment. What have whales ever done for me anyway |

If we are going to be including angles into the equation, then 180 degrees is rather an improbable turn for the amount humans on this planet, though not impossible. I would say a 32-degree turn is more realistic. It also depends on what we are driving at the time. If 2 billion people are driving an industrial machine, then hypothetically over a 100-year period a 12-degree turn could be achieved. After another hundred years a further 10 degrees, but unfortunately the machine hits a tree. The driver will happen to be drunk at the time & will be smoking a cigarette & will not realise the fuel tank is in fact leaking. He will throw his cigarette butt out the window & the fuel will catch on fire blowing up the industrial machine & 50 billion people. So unfortunate. The smoke will then black out the sun for 375 years. When the sun finally comes out again the remaining people (three or so thousand of them) will be able to make a 170-degree turn with lifestyle changes. |

humans became so adaptive and anti-evolutionary that we could survive a very massive catastrophe of the "the day after tomorrow" proportions (even though such a catastrophic event doesn't seem feasible in the nearest future).
on a sad note, humans are defying the evolutionary path and path of nature, which leads to more and more problems in our species. take medicine for example. it stops the evolution from taking its necessary toll by letting people who would otherwise die because of their insuitability to life on earth (genetic diseases) carry on the genetic imprint to their children. our species becomes less and less able to fight the nature's way by the very mechanisms that essentialy made us a superior race. |

the scale of things has changed significantly. it took 3 billion years to evolve from single-celled bacteria into something more serious. it took 100 years to go from an automobile to a trip to space. |

Some would claim this is the evolutionary path....:) |
