negative. liberal people don't give a about each person's own life, whereas conservative republicans feel it is their duty to be up in everyone's business (gay marriage, abortion, birth control rights...etc etc)

if they just stayed out of it, and let people do what they felt was best for THEM, then half these issues wouldn't even matter.

"The President is merely the most important among a large number of public servants. He should be supported or opposed exactly to the degree which is warranted by his good conduct or bad conduct, his efficiency or inefficiency in rendering loyal, able, and disinterested service to the Nation as a whole. Therefore it is absolutely necessary that there should be full liberty to tell the truth about his acts, and this means that it is exactly necessary to blame him when he does wrong as to praise him when he does right. Any other attitude in an American citizen is both base and servile. To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public. Nothing but the truth should be spoken about him or any one else. But it is even more important to tell the truth, pleasant or unpleasant, about him than about any one else."

i'll buy you a drink at crobar if you can name the person who said this... along with party affiliation

It is not neccesarily unjust, but it's used to justify all sorts of crap. The general line is "because of 9/11 we need to cut back on your personal freedoms, since the evildoers will kill you if we don't". In all honesty, by reducing the civil liberties to a small subset of what they used to be, this administration is making a MOCKERY of the USA. In all honesty, it is sad that very few people in the US are aware of the drastic increase in government intrusion in private life. How does a country, that is starting to look more and more like a police state going to go our and project freedom to other countries?

who denied anyone equal rights? please dont bring up marriage, because marriage is not a "right". its a state sponsored agreement.
if you think that marriage is a priviledge (aka state sponsored agreement) then you are saying that foreign heterosexuals have more priviledges in the US than US-citizen homosexuals.

yeah that's part of the reasoning... but given cbs' major -up re: bush's national guard service, i wouldn't use them as a reliable source lol

regardless of whether it was CBS or DAILY SHOW that reports it.... it came out of his mouth how much they hated each other. and its only common sense that the DICTATOR, who wants to supress religious fundamentalists and have ppl glorify HIM, would be enemies with the RELIGIOUS FUNDAMENTALIST, who is against a mortal man claiming to be glorified.

gays arent entitled to the tax break that married couples are, for what? church was separated from state a long time ago.
i didnt realise that that line of married/single on the federal income tax was a 'state sponsored agreement'.

they most definitely are entitled to those same rights, although marriage and legal rights are two different things. many people who are against gay marriage support the idea of a civil union with all the same rights as a married couple would have.

^^this just shows the very common ignorance to and isolationism that is so popular in this country. the war on Iraq was further fueled by the anti-French sentiments that so stupidly arose. ppl were more at war with France than they were at Iraq. how bout u travel around the world, and see who thinks Bush is a good and deserving president. ive been to 9 countries in the world, and ive seen demonstrations against our president Bush, BIGGER than demonstrations here in our own country. even the countries whos prime minister or president pledge their support to Bush, doesnt mean the whole population does. just look at Spain. just look at the UK. just look at Italy. those leaders are not gunna be reelected (Spain's Aznar wasnt), just because of their support for Bush.

its not ignorance at all - its a willingness to take on terrorist regimes across the world and try to rid the planet of terrorist threats. the european countries are not interested in doing this, for a number of different reasons, so theyre naturally not going to support Bush's action. The president's most solumn duty is to do everything within his power to protect the American people. What happened on Tuesday was that the majority of americans looked towards the french and all the other weak minded appeasers in europe and gave them the middle finger in the form of a vote for Bush. hallalujah for that.

the fact that the vast majority of americans are traditionalists and put great faith in the vaules that this country was founded upon is the main reason why you saw Kerry lose on Tuesday night. The idea of two men being married, or a baby being aborted at 8 months doesn't sit well in the minds of most of us. I just hope that the liberals continue on their secular path cause its gonna lead them into further defeat in the future.
