these were the ratings given to the players for this season ...
Roy Carroll - 4 - Disastrous season for Carroll it has to be said. Has been looking for the No1 jersey for so long and when Howard lost it, this was his chance. Always looked shaky and had a catalogue of errors, some unpunished (Spurs!)
Tim Howard - 6 - Lost his place in the team for a period after a bad mistake, but regained it only to lose it again. Not bad though, just needs experience.
Ricardo - NR - Never played.
Defenders
Gary Neville - 7 - Consistent and reliable. Was good at going forward too. Season was hampered somewhat by injuries.
Rio Ferdinand - 8 - Late arrival after his ban but brought some composure and assurance to the United defence. Commanding figure. Impressive season.
Mikael Silvestre - 6.5 - Sometimes shaky but generally reliable. Decent.
Gabriel Heinze - 9 - My player of the year. Amazing first season for the South American. Never shirked a challenge and gave everything for the team. Very impressive.
Wes Brown - 6.5 - Similar to Silvestre although still has that potential to be so much better.
John O’Shea - 5.5 - Not such a good season for young O’Shea. Needs to improve to stay at the club.
Jonathan Spector - NR - Made a few appearances. Maybe a prospect.
Gerard Pique - NR - One or two appearances. Looks good.
Midfielders
Ryan Giggs - 6.5 - Good season from Giggs when he wasnt injured. If only his finishing was better...
Roy Keane - 8 - Still the hearbeat of United. Some very impressive performances particularly against Liverpool and Arsenal. Commanding.
Paul Scholes - 7.5 - Poor start to the season but came back to form before Christmas and went on a scoring run. Faded a bit towards the end strangely.
Cristiano Ronaldo - 8 - Another very good season from Ronaldo. Has polished some of his trickery and has begun to both score and create more often.
Quinton Fortune - 6 - Nothing spectacular from the South African. Some say he is solid but does very little more often than not in my opinion.
Kleberson - 5 - For a Brazilian World Cup winner, it pains me to see how poor he plays. Looked so much better before. Has to move on.
Liam Miller - 5.5 - Critiscised unfairly in my opinion. Never got many opportunities but admittedly did not perform when he played. Needs more experience. Next season will be crucial.
Darren Fletcher - 7.5 - Starting to look more and more impressive. Great passer. Should score more but a good season all in all.
Strikers
Alan Smith - 5.5 - Disappointing season for Smith. Has never really looked lethal up front although his desire and determination can not be faulted.
Ruud van Nistelrooy - 6.5 - Although missed a lot of the season through injury. Has not looked himself even when fit. Needs to maintain standards of previous season.
Louis Saha - 6 - Always looks talented enough to score lots until he gets injured. Must try and avoid injury next season.
Wayne Rooney - 8.5 - Only 19 but an explosive talent, amazing goals and kept his temperment in check. Should be even better next season.
David Bellion - 6 - Scored a couple of goals at the beginning of the season. Never going to get a good run in the side however.
i pretty much agree with most of them but alan smith is to underrated he didnt get enough chances and obviously looked a little rusty ... given the heart and loyalty this lad plays with ... id sell van nistelrooy over him |

| i remember when i was much younger [14-17] i was a huge Man United fan, but as i grew older, their most valued players left the team [being David Beckham, Andy Cole, Peter Schmeichel and the others..] and their performance on the field changed from what i saw. they are still good to watch though, but unfortunately, i'm not the fan i used to be.. :( |

well look at it this way ... van nistelrooy in my opinion isnt as good as his records suggest ... at his best hes the greatest from the penalty spot by far and onviously the fact he cant stop scoring when hes hot goes without saying but looking at the goals he scores i dont rate him as a fantastic striker who can build his own goals ... he just has that natural strikers instinct and gets in the right place at the right time ... given that hed fetch a lot more than smith would and we could invest in getting someone like maybe torres or cassano who still have their best years ahead ... smith just works his ass of for the team and thats not a qauity many players have today ... anuway saha should be the one we need to get rid of ...hes our jonny woodgate |
