Yeah nothing boils people's blood over like politics, and this new development is going to have people here in Miami in an uproar. I guarantee you a lot of people are getting the champagne ready for when/if Fidel dies. Hell I am about to go buy my parents a bottle as they need to celebrate as that bastard made them leave their homeland 45 years ago.
And BTW Alien is a very good choice of movies to watch. |
Politics is a sickening thing. Its a subject that makes everyones story true. Just like me and Lis are arguing. |

Honestly saying nothing will change is pretty stupid & I am not saying you are but the Cuban revolution happened how long ago? And the ONLY reason he became leader was because he was elected by people who believed he had good intentions.
That was a very long time ago & 50 years later A LOT of things could change & happen. |
Note: Fidel was never elected. He along with Che Guevarra (everyone's favorite revolutinary) and Castro's mislead followers overthrew the Batista government by BSing the people into believing he was a better alternative and helping them do it. There were not any elections until a long time thereafter, and those elections were 100% rigged.
And what I stated is that not much would change as long as Raul is in power, and he is until further notice.
Trust me I want the Castro family out of the business of running Cuba as much as anyone. That country was the jewel of the caribbean and would have had such a great history over the past 45 years if not for the Castro family, it's policies, and its followers. But we all have to be realistic, and true change will take a lot more than the death of Fidel. Fidel never stopped the US from going into Cuba. Who was he? A fat, weak old man. Was he going to man a tank or plane and shoot down all US warplanes if we would have invaded. Of course not. With Fidel alive or dead we could take Cuba in 1 to 2 days. But there are other factors at play here which have and will continue to stop the US from doing anything overt such as invading Cuba. And it would take a lot for that to change. Remember Cuba shot down Brothers to the Rescue planes purposefully, with American citizens on board, and said they would do it again. Yet an invasion didn't happen then or at any time thereafter, and no criminal prosecutions even ensued eventhough at least such was clearly called for if not an invasion.
So I reiterate that the difference between Cuba with Fidel or Raul as the stated leader is not much of a difference. The will of the people on the island must change first, then the US can take a more proactive role in making it happen. Just my opinion. Please do not shoot me for it. |

Yes it can and does get ugly. But a healthy discussion is okay, and everyone is entitled to their opinions. The fact someone is opionated can show strength and/or knowledge, as long as opinions do not make one close-minded or at least willing to allow discussion and others to have adverse opinions. I am sure you and Lis will not let this topic interfere in your friendship.
In the end this is a very happy day for Cubans, Cuban Americans, anyone who believes in basic freedoms and human rights, and last but not least KARMA - which hopefully will be giving Fidel a final much deserved kick in the ass straight to hell.
BTW: I live around Bird Road and you can hear everyone blowing their horns like crazy. It looks like the celebrations have started. |

Nice. I hate politics but am semi-aware of this thing with Castro and personally hope things can be fixed before that other cockbag of a brother of his can assume the reins.
I watched half of Alien last night in the dark....I like it...scary.
