Yea the school told me I had to take all these freakin' courses including Eng Comp (again??) & precal. Cmon I got an A in Cal AB and BC back in UB there's NO way I'm listening to them. This is why I *hate* some advisors
Anyway in school right now, exploring, and trying to read up for Bio 2nite...yeah let's see how far I can go with this b4 I fall asleep  | well it's one class and then i shoot to work right after - that way i can work most of mon - tues & thurs. |

I thought I replied to this already? haha. Guess not.
I gotta take a b.s. writing and pre algebra - If you decide on a specific major you might not need to take math. Unless you want to be a nurse. I know my OTA doesn't need any math but I'm below "college math" atm so gotta take beginning algebra. (3 hours class too - those suck!)
have u freaking decided yet!?! |

^^ oops damn blackberry...it makes me miss posts. sorry Melly :( i didnt see ur prev post, ughs. yes u did answer it. so hows work going for you?
yeah all majors require math and english as far as i know.
the only thing im sure about right now is that im probably taking all my core lab sciences here up to intermediate/advanced level, maybe a few related electives...and then transferring to a senior CUNY or a private school targeted to my health/med major. Unless i can get and maintain the 3.8 required to get into nursing at our school. (YUP thats what my professor told us straight out, its that competitive). i thought about PTA but since the adviser told me he wasnt sure if the curriculum would transfer to an actual PT program later on i really don't want to be in the situation where i would have to RETAKE classes in the future (i soo hate on that). PT school already takes MADD long to complete... |

But it's 3.8 average on your "pre clinical courses". Either that or.. your pre clinicals get doubled and averaged into your GPA. But I think it's the first. Nursing is very hard program and so is mine. It def doesn't need math.
I'm gonna try and finish this Assoc in Science asap because if I get back into the swing of things I'd like to become an actual OT instea of OTA.
So funny about my prev post.. I didn't even see it that's why I wrote it again. |

btw if u are even interested in all in learning about how LaGuardia CC works with outside/senior colleges in NYC to give u a wellrounded 4 yr program, I saw a few schools scheduled to come in this month such as Queens, City College, Mercy, and even NYU i think. shruggs. I might even just go one of these afternoons and listen to what they have to say. cant hurt :) i may be interested in hearing what Queens College offers, because i know the school has a lot of health/med courses of study in its curriculum.
and one of these colleges MAY offer a OT program as well, u never know :) |

hey Melly! :) just seeing how school is going for you. :) ugh hw and quizzes on the horizon. I soo need a 3.7 this semester. ack!
so did u end up going to any seminars etc?
if u haven't already...im sure that the OTA dept will be having an information session within this semester. I went to a Physical Therapy Assistant one last week and it was REALLY informative. Defonitely check to see when the OTA session will be scheduled. :) I think they are mostly scheduled during the afternoon around 4pm. I'm going to a Nursing one this Wednesday. I think most likely i am going to try for nursing (gulp since its the MOST competitive major in this school) even tho it may take me longer than 2 yrs to finish. My 2nd semester English and my Psychology grades from UB both transferred over so thats a good start toward fulfilling major prerequisites.
My backup may be PTA since job prospects are good here AND in California :) |

I'd def like to go for nursing but I'm not into blood and stuff. PTA is hella cool and that's available everywhereee.. You'll def be cool if you choose that.
I'm taking my english 102 and psychology during the second half. I only had the eng101 credittransfer over.
School is going good. Taking my humanities now and I can't wait to get this semester over with! I'm taking a math remedial as well but no more math after this. (That's also the cool part about being an OTA)
What kinda info did you get on PTA? I'm curious since they are a bit similar.
OTA & PTA are difficult to get into but way easier than nursing! Nursing is very competitive with your pre clinicals and stuff. |

really? ur eng101 transferred over? funny how mine didn't! i wish mine had because ill have to take it probably next yr.
its *all* difficult to get into. hence why i am going to have a 2nd choice of major...or ill just apply to other nursing schools when the time comes. well im praying to get a 3.7 overall, thats really my goal. yeah the statistics class required of nursing students i am not thrilled with since that was my worst subject in high school.
regarding the seminar, they talk about what the profession is, differences btwn PT and PTAs (duties & education track), where alumni are now, various specializations in PT that ppl go into, and then they go into more information about getting into the major and how classes progress.
the only thing about PTA is that one needs to be in very good physical shape given how physically taxing the job is. also, since you have an Assistant title, you will probably be called on to bear the brunt of most of the work for the PT. |
