2006... the year international talent sucked hard in Toronto

Why has 2006 been (for the most part) such a dispointing year for international headlining dj's in Toronto? Did they choke? Was it that we expected too much from them? Has the bar been raised too high?
OR?
Is it that our local talent stepped it up a notch this year? Everyone from Nathan Barato to Sean Miller (and many, many in between), I feel the need to remind everyone of how good we had it this year for local dj's...
Thoughts? |

2006 has definitely been the year of local djs!!
so many times this year i've gone to parties to check out international djs only to have the locals save the night! |

Admittly I didn't go out to see many int DJs this year, but ones that stood out were Yoji, Ferry @ LoL and SvD. Oh and Acquaviva and Fontaine at Guv 10 yr. Those 2 consist of some of my fav rocking out to house moments.
But yes. Local DJs kick ass. It's just some of us take the locals for granted for a long time and never quite appreciated how good they really are until BAM. Sudden realization.
Plus partying with TAs make even a meh event into a good one. |

Oh I've been to many great "parties" this year, I guess I should specify that I'm talking about their sets musically.
(re: international dj's)
I can't really say anyone blew me away this year with a 10/10 set. The closest was Desyn and Omid, and to be fair I had zero expectations going into that night. |

| Adam Beyer blew me away, but no one else did really. |

Total let down for me this year, in fact total garbage. Have you seen these dj's before?

Agreed, good times, but hardly unforgettable nights. I've obviously raised the bar too high. |

I disagree just for the fact that this was the first time i've seen most of the int'l DJs and thought they amazing...
I think my set of the year has to go to Sander Van Doorn @ 10 Year...had sooo much fun and he just an amazing tracklist!! |

I would have to disagree greatly...
The Hacker
Adam Beyer
Satoshi Tomiie
Lee Burridge
Loco Dice
Victor Calderone
Josh Wink
Luke Fair
Nic Fanciulli
Hernan Cattaneo
John Digweed
were such awesome sets. Maybe you've just been unlucky and have been attending the wrong parties Jon.
As far as the local talent shining, I would have to agree with you on that one.
Lee Osborne, Sean Miller, and Kenny Glasgow have saved the night for me on some occasions...and some just played better than the headliner. |

True, I haven't been to any of those parties (minus Calderone, who I agree was pretty good)...
I should also add that I'm basing my opinion on previous years in this city and previous times I've seen said DJ's... |

Toronto has been accustomed to a certain sound and type of party. If a DJ comes in here and sways from that they get less than stellar reviews.
I do not think it's a matter of us setting the bar too high but rather us liking things a certain way. And by us I obviously mean clubland Toronto. |

| ya most djs IMO were disappointments. although oakenfold surprised me @ 10 year. second sun are always ing sick. and of course the debut of sander van doorn. top live dj of the year for me. everyone was mediocre. locals > international in the majority |
