Rudy Gay, and Mike Miller? Not exactly where I'd start building a contender around.

...

no doubt the Lakers scored big here...but Memphis does well by shedding the unhappy Gasol's 15+ mil salary (and Kwame's 9 mil is gone after this year).

Mike Miller is very underrated (as in most casual fans don't know who the hell he is, lol). He's numbers are always good, but this year: 50%+ FG%, 80%+ FT%, 16.8 pts, 6.8 reb, 3.8 ast...43% 3pt shooter too. I would love to have this guy at SG or SF on the Raps.

Memphis has some good young talent with Conley there too. Navarro and Miller are only 28. Darko could (ha, maybe) still pan out. They aren't a great team, obviously, but if they pick up a decent pair of free agents, they could be a very good one.

Lakers are going to be scary when everyone is healthy though...wow.

From a salary perspective it makes sense. From a rebuilding perspective it does as well. But the deal reminds me of the Vince deal for us, we got squat in return except for quiet in the locker room, and that's probably what Memphis is gonna get. As for Mike Miller, I've never been sold on the guy. He strikes me as a shooter who has some rebounding ability, but a shooter is easier to pick up [IE Jasan Kapono] that someone who you'd build you team around, a low post threat like Oden, a point guard like Chris Paul, or a guy who can do everything like LeBron. Finding those hard-to-fill positions creates championship teams.

As for Bargnani, the guy's a . He can score all he wants, but until he start filling the stat sheet in more ways than 3's, he's nothing IMO. 'Footers can't be considered useful until they start adding blocks and rebounds to their numbers or they're just a liability IMO. When the guy decides to bend his knees on defense, maybe I'll change my tune. Until then Bargnani is crap.

I see what you're saying, but it's more rare to find a guy with his all-around game. I think Miller would start at either SG or SF on almost any team in the league. Kapono...hell no :)

I certainly wouldn't build a team around Miller, but he's a versatile 2nd scoring option on almost any team. They have no "star", but Memphis has a solid core of young players to build upon.

Having said that, Memphis is done until they get a legit PF or C. They're going to get slammed when up against teams with a solid front court, lol.

Toronto didn't even get the salary relief thanks to having to buyout Mourning...what a bastard. I was pissed and don't respect him the way I used to.

Lovin that Gasol to Lakers deal. How crazy would a Celtics vs. Lakers finals be?? Oh man!

Moving on though, since it's almost trade deadline time what kind of moves (big or small) would you like to see the Raptors do?
EvilTree
A center/PF who can rebound and play interior D. Duh...

Getting pwned on the glass is not the way to win games.

And the Raps have so many shooters to trade away

I agree. We definitely need a centre. I say somebody like Dalembert. Give Philly Dixon, Rasho, and maybe Graham. Or if they're really picky, send them Kapono as he's our most valuable expendable asset right now.

My buddy suggested another sweet trade after some thought on the Laker trade. It's pretty obvious that the Mitch Kupchak got the deal he did because of his relationship ship with West, so maybe Colangelo needs to give ol'pop a call. Marion and Staudemire are both in their last contract years, and I'm sure Phoenix would love get something in return for one of them (since it'll be extremely hard to sign both in the off-season). We decided that sending Kapono and some other guys for Marion would be killer. With Delfino establishing himself as a great all around player (great 3pt shot, drives to the net, smart on the D and can run an offense) we have almost no use for somebody like Kapono who's too much of a one-dimensional player.

Just imagine:
Ford/Calderon
Bosh/Humphries
Bargnani/Rasho
Marion/Moon
Parker/Delfino

This would easily put us into conference contention.
MarkT
the problem often becomes matching salaries (in addition to a package that makes sense for the other team).

I'd love to see Marion here, but I can't see anything we have being attractive to Phoenix at all. Our PGs are the most valuable trade bait and they have Nash. Graham is probably next and they don't need him either. I wish though...Marion here would be nice.

I still think the Raps should make a pitch for Elton Brand, since Kaman's play makes him very tradeable.

TJ + Graham + Dixon + 1st rounder. Salaries are close enough to tweak the deal to make it work.

Calderon, Parker, Moon, Bosh and Brand. sick. Clippers get the legit PG they need and we get the rebounding/blocking we need.
EvilTree
If Ford leaves, who'd be the back up PG? Delfino?
infinity HiGH
We'd have to get another PG. Delfino can run an offence but we need him at SG more than at PG.

Yeah I'm not a big fan of Delfino carrying the rock, let Calderon start and find a back up PG

Give Bargs some time
he is essentially the same type of player as Gasol

I don't think Marion or Stoudamire would play in such a small market like Toronto
and with Calderon being a free agent I doubt we would sign them to a big contract
Rasho has 1 year left after this one on his contract (player option) which is 8 million
So personally I think they won't chase after a big center/rebounder until his contract is up
Rasho can continue to teach Bargs the basics, then once Rasho is out the door, and 8 mill is freed up, I see them chasing after a big guy
