Review: John Digweed (no Sasha) (pg. 30)

It's brilliant how Sasha & Digweed together can control the tempo of a party, yet keep the energy level at its highest.

Individually they are free to do their own thing, play according to how they feel, how the crowd feels, how they want to tell their own story instead of writing a combined story where their input would generally be different in the way that they both compliment each other.

I disagree.

The thing about versus sets is that both DJs feed off of each other, and while putting their own mark into the set, somehow still manages to mesh together well.

I don't think Diggers does his own thing when he's playing with Sasha. He probably knows how Sasha thinks better that Sasha does and adapts what tunes to play accordingly.

can someone that went to Montreal throw down their opinion on this please?

Digweed played more like Sasha in MTL.. and Sasha at times a bit dark and techier. They both blend with each other's sound so that the transition between them both is smooth. It just wouldn't make much sense if they both did their own thing when playing together. It's all about unity and adaptation, but still sticking to your trademark sound(s).

i read or saw somewhere that for the tour diggers had a CD book filled with 150 CDs with 8 tracks on each CD... i think that alone proves he can go in any direction he feels or finds necessary depending on the crowd he's playing for... it's not like he brings the same 20-30 songs to play at every gig... do i think he played the same by himself as he would've played with sasha? no... do i still think he still delivered a solid 4+ hour set? yeah

he even said so himself that the toronto gig was a special night for him and the crowd... i've seen diggers play just under 10 times now and although i always walk away satisfied, i've never seen him clap, smile and interact with the crowd as much as he did at this gig... how much more do you want?

Not much to say if your comparing the Mntrl party to Kool Haus. Mntrl party was a 1000 times better no doubt about that. First reason is because they played together so the track selections were just right to make it sound as one dj playing for 6 hours, it was simply amazing. Second reason it was much better was because it had undistorted clear sound that you can hear perfect all across the dance floor. I dont care what you guys say that its because its a diff room so the setup sounds diff, my view on this is Kool Haus dosent give a about sound and I think we all experienced that. Digweed delivered in my opinion but the party could have been 100 time better if they just tuned the sound a bit, especially when there is a world class ing dj coming to spin. Other than that, good party but its pointless to compare anything to Mntrl because its not on that level.

If you guys want an idea of wtf happened in MNTRL watch this video, the venue is just messed up :)

What Cribby and I have been saying all along....100% agree with this. I was at Sasha and Digweed Boatcruise in Miami and even an open air boatcruise had the sound tuned better...and their set was fantastic, as to be predicted. And that was only 3 weeks before the KoolHause debacle.

I have written to my contacts at Guv about the sound issue at KH, as someone suggested....no reply. Little bit of care and tuning would have gone a lllloooong way here.

Sasha, what were your first thoughts when you were told you were not allowed to cross the Canadian border? (Zaid Edghaim)
Sasha: It was a complete nightmare.

I lost my passport that contained my U.S. work visa.

The reason why I didn’t go into Canada is because I wouldn’t have been able to come back in to do the U.S. shows.

So as soon as I had two consecutive days off, I flew to London with no sleep after the Mexico gigs, spent six hours in the U.S. embassy and miraculously managed to turn my visa around in 24 hours and just managed to catch the very last flight to Seattle.

I made the gig just in time.

Just got in.... What a great night, I didn't like the set up in the KH too much, too many areas where you couldn't see the stage. But Digweed played really well, especially during the end of the set.
