lol i never said killing it miss pie :o

digweed was digweed, impeccable mixing, groovy tunes and then turned up the party at the end. it was still an awesome night, i'm glad i didn't opt for the refund.

for all you crowd interaction jury members, he was well into it the last couple tunes - clapping and smiling, omg gasp!

it's still laura.

Oh stop it you little Burridge Whore. :p Exactly comparable to when Lee's in town and plays just an "okay" set, but Miss Pie will tell everyone he brought his "A" every single time. Just remember some sets are better than others. All in all, Digweed delivered. Sasha did not!!! ;)

First of all, respect is given to the guv for the way they handled the whole 'sasha getting ed over at customs' kurfuffel. The options given were very reasonable, and I think everyone can say as fans of the music we appreciate knowing before heading into the club. Well done.

Musically, the night was pretty sub-standard. I've seen sasha and digweed play together before, it's an incredible experience, but I have also seen digweed solo, and this was far from his best. The best way I would describe it was chuggy and slow, with danceable spots. Technically flawless as always, and the parts of his set that did work REALLY worked [3-4:30 as already mentioned], I still couldn't help feel annoyed at the way he played. For a shortened night that half the talent was missing, I was expecting him to come out all guns blazing and destroy the town and he didn't. Besides, on a shortened night he shouldn't be acting as his own opener when someone else has already been hired to fill that spot!

Aside from that, the bright spots about the night were the fact that Sasha not showing kept some people away, so the club wasn't as rammed and I could find room to groove. Secondly, seeing everyone who I have literally not seen in at least a year and having all the 'oh my god! Where have you been?' conversations.

All in all for me last night, it was less about the music, and more about the fact that of the people were there everyone seemed to be up for it, and ready to take in all that digweed had to offer. It's just a shame he didn't offer more.

he was destructive the last two hours. that was some outstanding music!
pretty solid time. Anticlimax of the year!

i've slept...now to work and then back to the scene of the crime for angello tonight.

HOOOOOOLY on a dry stick!

Total proper prog education!!!

Yes, I finally made it to Toronto. First time since NYD@Zone. It was like some evil spirits were trying to keep me away but I think I finally broke free.
Then again, maybe I'm the bad luck because Sasha didn't show.

Anyways...

Came at 11:15, very little lineup. Smooth picking up the tix and entry.

Very classy of the Guv to give free tickets to Angello & Ingrosso and 2 drink tix. The gesture to make up to the customers for Sasha not showing up is much appreciated.

Of course, like most people I came to see Sasha and Digweed, not just Digweed. It's just one of those things you do as a clubber, just like going to see Tiesto. You do it, for the sake of being able to say that you did it.
So I was a bit bummed out that Sasha couldn't come, but oh well. I made the best out of the situation. I like Digweed better than Sasha anyways.

After 5 mins of just soaking the atmosphere and the beats, I just felt in my bones. You know when you just get that feeling that the night is going to be so awesome? The prog gods were saying to me that this night was going to be something special.

Did Mark Oliver play at all? The warm up DJ was good for about first 45 mins I got in, but afterwards got very boring. Eh. It's hard to warm up for prog DJs who play the style of Lawler, Sasha and Digweed, and makes you really appreciate what kind of phenomenon job Mark O does on nightly basis.

Digweed... I don't think he has come to Toronto since Guv 9 yr I think, which was probably the best night of prog in my life. (Luke Fair, Hernan Cattaneo and Digweed @ Main room) That night just made me totally fall in love with prog so I had pretty high expectations from Diggers.

First hour of Diggers... Pretty bland. I know he was setting up and building up the set, but Kazell left him at perfect spot to take the flow to a new level, and you can kinda feel the crowd get bored out and agitated for Diggers to do something with the set.

Actually, before I go on, I gotta talk about the worst part of the night, the sound.
Worst sound in KH ever. It was very hard to find a good spot in the KH to properly appreciate the tunes. All I pretty much heard was woom woom woom of the bass that drowned out the mids.
To me, proper prog experience means I gotta be able to appreciate the melody and I'm trying hard to drown out the bass and strain to hear the mids so I can't drone out and just get into the groove.
I bet this is part of the reason why a lot of people got bored easily. Too much bass which should have been lowered by about 5 decibels.

3:00 came and Digweed kicked it up big time. The rolling bassline, the twisted and warped melodies, Diggers is a master at his craft. Near flawless mixing, perfect flow, it was so damn good to see a master plying his trade.
Crowd going absolute nuts. Diggers with his look of pure concentration and not giving a damn what the crowd is doing lol. Well, just not reacting to the crowd, but the man knows how to read the crowd.
Actually, he did clap his hands like two hands and I think I even saw him crack a smile which must be a new record high for crowd interaction from Digweed. lol
Every crazy buildup and breakdown had the crowd going nuts. I'm laughing like a madman because it was so damn good. There was this one tune after some vocals from an 80s tune which i forgot the name of... 5 mins of just crazy mad buildups. What is it called?
From 4:30 to the end I'm dancing like a total sketchbag and I just didn't give a damn. I know I must have looked like complete moron but the beats... So good.

Digweed is one of my fav DJs and he didn't disappoint me. Considering how many people stayed till the end, this party should have gone at least another few hours because the crowd had the energy to party it up more. Too bad...

It was awesome to see so many faces after so long. I know I suck at coming out to parties but I will be coming to Freedom for sure. (So I say) ;)

Random thoughts
-girl with blinking lights in her hair. that was cute
-Digweed needs a haircut. I so wanted to climb the stage to give him one on the spot. lol
-crowd was best at guv in a long time. most people were pretty damn polite and the vibe was phenomenon. it was crowded, but not too crowded.
-loved how most people stayed until the end, that's just a sign that the crowd was in it for the music, not random drinking to be seen crowd or whatever.
-no really. I was there. people took pics. lol
-barely any people with glowsticks. death of glowsticking finally?
-what is up with only one washroom open earlier in the night?
-everyone trying to get out at the end. coat check must have been insane
-fuad is crazy. man came to toronto just for the weekend
-julio fey is crazy. man was totally out of control early in the night. (sucks you didn't enjoy the night cribby) :(
-i really felt bad for few people who came for S&D experience but didn't get it. I know a lot of people made the effort to see both but ah well. happens
-get well soon MK!
-i saw slings and lisa together. that is forbidden
-kool haus is definitely better for air circulation, but wish few of the doors were open. in the middle of the club was pretty damn sweaty.
-i really hope there is a make up date for S&D. with the vibe of last night, I totally believe if Sasha did come, it would have been the party of the year
-Jackie gets the hero of the day award for ensuring I come out. Miss Awesome!

Overall: 8.5 out of 10

Great night last night.
I was surprised there was barely a lineup outside, thank god. Cuz on the drive to TO, it was pouring crazy in some spots.

The whole sasha missing thing was very well handled. Guv did many things to make up for it, drinks, angello pass, and they will do their best to bring the duo sometimes.

Kh was nicely decorated. Very inviting scheme. The setup looked like system's closing night. The place was filling up nicely and never reached over crowdedness, so plenty of space to rock it out. And the crowd was surprisingly very friendly.

Kalzell's set was great. Way to warm up the place!.it was my first time hearing the guy and was pleased.

As for diggers, the set was up and down. As many have voiced, he had some boring parts. Allowed pple to rest a bit. His set had 2 major peaks, 230am and 330 to 5am. In full force, his set was banging and had me going mental.

It was so nice weeing many familiar faces last night and pple I haven't seen in a long time. Andrea, nada, jenn, laura, milos, cribs, jem, jason, pat, etc etc etc :)

Even without sasha, the party was great. Still doesn't beat the mtl party (well nobody expected that to happen anyways!)

After the party, I crashed in my car for 2 hours and then got a really early checkin to my hotel, nice ;)

Overall 8/10

yeah...disappointing night for me. Beautiful beats and mixing, but i could of listened to a radio show to enjoy that. Defiantly didn't fit the hype, excitement, or the $200+ it cost me to bring me and my friend up from buffalo...Worst part about it, we left right around 330.

Well heres to them coming back at the end of the tour!!!
