1. Regardless of what Russia thinks, this territory is still OFFICIALLY part of Georgia. No european country, aside from Russia itself and other break-away regions have recognized it's independence.

2. If russia wants to protect its citizens in the area - provide planes, trains and automobiles so that they can get the out

3. Russia is doing EXACTLY THAT - squatting the territory. Ossetians have been BEGGING to be considered part of Russia for several years now, however it was a bit shy about openly claiming Ossetia as "their own". Now, it is hiding behind "we're protecting our citizens" BS to move in and take it. Thing is, that most of the sane world sees it for what it is - a first step of re-esablishing Russian dominance and Georgia is a convenient ass to hump. Nice to see "why don't you pick on someone your own size" stereotype play out so well with Russia.

At this point the only argument I'd take is that Russia is being a bit hypocritical (Chechnya). However I think Ossetia has the right to a separatist movement should it want to do so. As for Georgia - those ******s should've known what would happen if they marched in there guns blazing. It would be a smarter idea to go straight to the EU and handle this diplomatically. But instead they move in with artillery. What the did Georgia think was going to happen exactly??

I meant in the traditional modern sense of the term, but yes, they, like the rest of the world have been engaging in the whole human tradition of submission of others for much longer.

Welcome to the real world, someone is always going to be someone elses bitch.

Is there any proven and official chain of events? From what I understand, russians have been provoking Georgians some time now. I would not be least bit surprised if it was instigated by Russians to pull Georgia into this conflict. Although, knowing how hot-blooded Georgians are, I would not be surpirsed that all this broke out over someone calling someone's momma a ho. I've seen that pay out in Russian restaurants waaaaay too many times.

Bingo!!!! It all comes down to the Caspian sea gasline that goes through Georgia if Iam not mistaken. The US wants the goodies from there and Georgia is a perfect way for them to get their hands on it,hence their full support for Georgia.I dont know how Iran plays a roll in any of this though.

Reason why I dont get is because he said:

I gurantee you now that the Czechs and the Polish will def rething their missile shield plans, and Russia will be more than obliged to help the US out with Iran.

Doesnt make alot of sense to me.Russia will never stand behind the US when it comes down to Iran. They have waaaay too much money invested in Iran, not to mention billions of dollars worth of military contracts that they have with Iran.

here is a little background

there is north ossetia and south ossetia, they dont get along with eachother like sunnis and shiaits in iraq, because north ossetia which is closer to russia whats to be independent but south ossetia wants to be part of georgia. both south and north ossetia is part of georgia since there has been country called georgia.

here is how this whole thing started

- rebels from north ossetia, equipped by Russian military attacked civilians of south ossetia figuring they could just take over both sides

- Georgian president sent in troops to stop these rebels from killing innocent civilians in south ossetia, keep in mind rebels dont wear any formal military clothes, they are just civilians with AK47s shooting other civilians. once georgian troops shot at them russians claimed that georgians were shooting innocent unarmed citizens of russia from north ossetia, reporting 1400 dead which is bunch of russian propaganda. if you read on cnn.com or newyorktimes under the 1400 number, it says that no independent sources are confirmed, meaning they are taking russians word for it, pretty dumb idea

- so russians started to send in tanks and aircrafs to "protect" their people meanwhile bombing cities across georgia, places where innocent civilians live like in gori, which the last place i would expect russians to bomb considering Stalin was born and raised in Gori, they also bombed Poti port where ships loaded with oil are standing still, leaving 40 dead and 100s wounded

russians dont give a flying about ossetia, they want that oil and gas pipleline and its killing them that it goes through georgia and not russia

ive talked to my uncle who lives in tbilisi and he said its quiet as of now in capital but he could hear bombings earlier.

crazy thing is all my family is in georgia right now for vacation at black sea in batumi, (i couldn't go because i was taking summer classes in college and i got a pretty heavy work schedule)they cant get out because all the roads and airports are closed, you could imagine how scared im am right now, i could be the only one left in my whole family for all i know

ps ossetians are muslim refugees from middle east, stalin let them be there when USSR invaded afganistan so once soviet uniot broke up georgians demanded that osstinans accept to be georgian citizens or leave the place. that is when they started to want to be independent
from us. we've been in war ever since
