I was gonna suggest working as a personal support worker while you go to school for nursing, but I forgot you have to go to school for that too (or have at least a year of nursing under your belt).
It's such awesome experience. I would definitely suggest doing it after your first year of school. |

an HR person or manager spends a maximum of 10 seconds going thru a resume, and I'm being generous. Anyting that she/he might dislike and yours goes to the garbage... so what are the chances of being called? especially when the economy is weakening and there's tons of people looking for jobs.
In order:
1-calling friends, family to let them know you're looking for a job.
2-selecting a few companies that really intrest you, call their HR dept and ask for openings, jobs aren't always advertized on their websites.
3-going to a placement hr firm
4-mass mailing of resumes |
excellent advice. the first job i ever got, i walked my resume around to all the bank branches in my area and personally tried to speak to the branch managers and if not, the managers of customer service. after my 10th, they hired me (got lucky cuz an old lady was retiring, and it's very hard to find a contract teller, which is the lowest of the low, LOL, but perfect for me as a university student).
Since then, each promotion and change in company was due to networking.
The only thing I would change in Malek's priority is to send the mass emails first, and to do that every singly day, monitoring your monster.com account, as part of your daily contacts to the "better" sources. this way, you have the ball rolling and you can be fielding the calls and email replies on a daily basis, keeping yourself busy. if money is in dire need you should be working at McDonald's if you need to, while you make job hunting your REAL full time job. |

Did you see my edit of his points? I added, "And send out resume." after points 1-3 since 4 already was send out resume. Since you should be doing it CONSTANTLY on top of all the other you do.
Oh and Greg, I will gladly allow you to see my resume if you would like. PM me your email. Craig helped me with it a bit. |

My grudge against mass mailing resumes comes from personal experience, i sent, i swear to any deity you believe in, over 400 resumes with cover letters during a period of 6-7 months after graduating.
I didn't get a single call or interview!:gsmile: :whip: :whip:
(that was right after the it bubble meltdown though). |

I actually want a woman who is an interesting, cool person all on her own. |
