i'd rather have the letter of recommendation and a good reference. it's not like he sexually harrassed me. that would be a diff story.

At least your starting school again. That should keep you optimistic, especially as the field you're entering will grant you lifetime stability.

I have a friend who just entered CRNA school, and another that's starting an accelerated BSN to become an NP. No joke, a company has already grabbed the pre CRNA with a contract to work x amount of years for their hospital as they pay off the student loans NOW.

I'm even contemplating entering this field with the shortages/demands, reimbursements, scholarships, travel opportunities, fulfillment, salary, etc. Or maybe it's all too good to be true, don't know what any proposed healthcare reforms will do.

it's not too good to be true. nurses have pretty sweet deals and there is a constant demand for them no matter how ty the economy is. i was reading Florida Trend Magazine the other day (business related magazine) and it was talking about the unemployment rate in florida and what jobs are still in demand and what jobs aren't...all of the health industry related jobs are still in demand. it's always gonna be like that.

a girlfriend of mine who is en ER nurse at a major hospital here has been mentoring me. she said it's a great career move with lots of room to grow and money to be made and it's very flexible and versatile too. if i don't like the hospital setting i can try private practice, etc... nursing school is no walk in the park though i'm aware of that. but i'm ready. and most hospitals (at least down here) offer a percentage of tuition if you sign a contract with them, so i'm looking into that.

i always just assumed i'd stay in the legal field/office setting because it's what i know and what i've always done. i was thinking law school down the road but i realized i hate sitting at a desk. i wanna be on my feet and helping people. i think it's a good move for me.

and yea, i'm excited to be starting school again and getting into this. it's the only thing that's keeping me going right now.

oh and PS- the nightclub manager just emailed me and wants me to work all next weekend. SCORE!

im a hostess and work the front with the VIP director. it's not a permanent thing i'm sort of like the "on call" hostess. it's a part time gig i picked up about a month ago. i didn't think they were going to need me for a while though but they just said they do next weekend.

Same here, and I don't want to be in school/residencies for the next 8 some years to do it.

You might want to check into this. A doc told me this is what he would have done if he had to do it all over again, and that this would be the cushiest job in the years to come (they'd supposedly be replacing CRNA's) no autonomy, sign on bonuses, six figures starting, highest demand of all fields right now, and cap at 40 hr. weeks.

And if you're in FL, it's one of the only 5 some states AA's can practice in... for now. It's growing fast though. My school just started a program in January.

Only downfall is advanced physics and bio/organic chemistry courses, plus some schools require the MCAT.

yikes. i don't know if i have the brain for that stuff. but then again, i've never taken it and the few hard college level math science courses i took, i didn't really throw myself into 100%. i think i just don't apply myself if i'm discouraged but i'm really serious about nursing and i've matured a lot since i took those courses (when i was like 22). i'll get tutors and do whatever i need to in order to get through the courses i struggle in.

surgical assistants bank too and you can start off as a regular nurse and go to school for it while you work. they always support continued education (according to my nurse friend).

I've got a financial advisor looking at my resume/cover letter and I should receive a call at any time.

Just do what women did for centuries: marry some rich guy and become pregnant. Jeez, what's so hard about that?
