well i spoke to the attorneys today (just the 2 guys) and it went very well. i think they might offer me the job, but the only thing is that they have decided in the midst of all the interviewing over the past week, that they'd like to fill his former secretary's spot with TWO jobs. one being the "senior paralegal" and then a "jr. paralegal" to sort of assist the other one. they gave me a job description of the senior role and it's definitely a little out of my league, but nothing i couldn't pick up after a week or so of training. but i was honest and told them i'd probably be more suited for the jr. role when they point blank asked me, and they both appreciated my honesty and agreed.

i have a feeling they're gonna offer me the jr. role and i'll know tomorrow. my mom says i should take it if they offer, even though it'll probably be less than what i was just making. just for the simple fact that it's income and it's a nice firm (i like everyone and like the vibe of the office). with the way the market is right now, i should just take what i can get and get a paycheck and if something better comes along, then i gotta look out for myself. i have another interview tomorrow at noon at a different firm, which i'm going to no matter what (even if i get offered the job from today's interview).

i know they are really busy and they really want to get someone in there with like 10 years experience in that particular role, but i think it's silly for them to make it 2 diff positions. if they just gave me a little time and a little training, i'd be fine. oh well.

good luck jamie! hope it works out for you...

The reason why they want some with X amount of experience is because they don't want to waste time training you. If they are as busy as you said, it seems like the reason.

thanks:)

Jamie: Out of your league?! How is it out of your league? Just because there are things that you have never done, that doesn't put it out of your league. Go for it bitch! :p

(The Sr role that is)

no i know...i totally understand their position, but i just know how i am and i pick up on things rather quickly. i would stay late for a week or come in on a saturday if i had to in order to get caught up on everything, but whatever.

the only thing is that i told them what i was making at my other firm and i'm sure that it's too much for the jr. role they are offering so that is working against me.

yea but they gave a description of that role and they were just asking me if i would be able to take over the files and know exactly what to do without asking. i wasn't going to lie. i told them no. i said that i felt confident that i'd be able to pick up on it all, but not without ANY training whatsoever.

i also sent both of them thank you emails and i mentioned that i knew i'd be able to "hit the ground running" (a term they used) in the jr. role and that i also felt confident about being able to take on the sr. role with "a little training and little time" and then went on to explain that i understood their position on the matter. i said either way i hope they chose me because i really wanted to be a part of the team. it was a nice letter, hopefully it made a difference.

Well I am sure they asked to see what you know and see which one you would best fit with possible room to grow. There are advantages to not knowing things as they can mold you to what they want. I would ask for the Sr. role if possible. :)

good luck. :)

it is sometimes better to be a bit under qualified than over qualified.;)

Exactly.

the people who hire , tend to skip over the over qualified because they pose more risks in the sense that they are worried the salary they can offer is not competent, and that the candidate will always be looking for something better. Low employee turnover is what they want.

i know what you mean but it's just that the firm i came from, i was in a senior role making pretty good money and managing 150+ files. now i'd have to go to a jr. role and that's fine, but like i said...i told them what i was making and i know it's waay too much for the jr. role, but that's the role i'm suited for there. so i'm sure they interviewed a couple more girls for the jr. role who are perfectly fine with what they have to offer, salary wise. do you see what i mean how that works against me?
