Didn't really mean Jumpstyle was Huge. It has been very popular among teenagers and kids enjoying the jumping, although some tracks ended up in the Top40.
Compared to the other genres it will always remain small.
Just seem to have some difficulty with the word Huge...
Yep, could and maybe should have mentioned Innercity too. |

Well, I agree with you aswell. Music is meant to be enjoyed without having to think too much about what's going on. I, on the other hand, have always attempted to decipher hidden denotations, nuances and technical aspects that others might ignore.

There is so much PLUR in this thread haha. Those kids probably had a great time. We probably used to be like that i guess, not necessarily with trance but with some form of music or the other. As a teenager i remember listening to some ethereal-wave (or some music like that) and remember feeling very intense feelings seriously, goosebumbs and everything lol. Now i rarely feel extreme emotions like that. It reminds me of that past thread of yours about emotional deficiency that comes with growing ha. Maybe my brain has habituated to life, becoming a kind of semi-zombie. Or maybe we are "trained" to live in a mediocrity of subjective experience. Who knows. Maybe i'll do a PHd about it lol. Than you're more lucky than we are here in Belgium ... :D
It's still pretty popular but I think the big hype that there was in the beginning is over. Unfortunately you still have special clubs only playing this kind of music, ID&T Belgium is still doing hard style events with jump DJ's in the line-up ... Jump style even has its own ridiculous dancing style (Jump). Funny part is that it started as being really cool if you were able to "jump" ... but now it has become SO popular that it's even done on public playgrounds, in schools ... by kids (boys AND girls) not older than 10 years old :haha: . They're even releasing whole CD's now with kids’ songs on it, remixed into a jump track, targeted on these 10 year old kids. So you can imagine the real die-hard Jump fanatics aren’t to glad with this evolution. They WERE cool, now they are only laughed with :haha: :haha: :haha:
maybe I should post a few youtube links later on with some examples of these kiddy songs or other jump tracks :D. What's even worse, is that a lot of these jump producers use old trance records and remix them into a jump track (examples are "taste of summer", "Universal Nation", ...). I even heard of comments of die-hard fans who said the original version of "taste of summer" was a bad ripp-off of the jump version :haha: |

I didn't really know when minimal started to become big, all I know is that it's been around since the 1990s by Plastikman and I believe it did peak at around 2005 - 2006 with tracks like Baby Kate, Seeing Through Shadows and even tracks people think are minimal but aren't such as Mouth to Mouth and Full Clip. They were HUGE in the summer of 2006 in Ibiza, the epicentre of minimal being in DC10. Some guy wrote that Baby Kate became everyone's ring tone in summer of 2006. Berlin clubs also of course developed the minimal trend I believe in Berghain, Watergate, Weekend (sometimes) Bar 25 Der Visonaere etc.
I believe huge to me, is when the clubbing community gets exposure to the genre even though the public non clubbing community still think that that genre is underground.

Never said I did, I'm pretty much the most positive/optimistic person you're likely to meet :p
What I mean is that I don't listen to, say, depressing goth music as it doesn't instigate the emotions/feelings I like my music to.
Me being a happy person means I tend to gravitate towards happy music. I've never had a minimal or happy hardcore track raise a smile from me. |

I love Belgium for how people danced at old techno and trance. Always went to Belgium clubs. Much more underground back then compared to Dutch clubs. They already jumped like 15 years ago and it was really cool to watch. Two words which you might remember: BONZAI JUMPS :)
If you see how much fun now even just 2 year old childeren have jumping to this music, I can't be negative about it.
Also better than sitting in front of tv or the playstation all day. Jumpstyle mainly is popular beneath 18 years I think, which if fine to me.
We all know little childrens reactions are very pure, so they really are enjoying it. |
