I say everyone bring a bag of garbage and we will walk onto the gardiner and dump it in the middle of the street.....we already know its okay to protest on the gardiner.

This strike should make us think about how poorly we use resources. The amount of disposanble containers and wrappers on the ground, or around trash bins is just outrageous.

Our throw away society is definitely partly to blame. So lets get back to the three R's.

Reuse, reduce, recycle.

I agree here... It makes me sick that people are dumping garbage everywhere. They SHOULD be fined... it is ILLEGAL. Its been 2 days... people should be able to deal with a bit of extra trash...

But yes the city should also be helping citizens - providing a way for the to dispose their garbage properly.

I cant believe how much litter there is on the streets... it really makes me sad :(

Great so send a liason officer out to redirect citizens at the transfer stations. Send in the police to make sure that citizens can get through to dispose of the garbage. Use fines as a LAST resort, not the first response which the city seems to be doing. Having a bylaw office snake around the strike scenes waiting to fine everyone who gets tired of waiting after receiving NO HELP is not the answer here. I bet the treasury office can just smell the extra money instead of the trash.

PS hardly a peep from the mayor and when he does speak he scolds the citizens of toronto like children. Some leadership!!

Sure but lets not confuse the issues here. The last thing we need is for the left to use this as a high horse campaign

Well dumping garbage is pretty childish...

Christie Pits was swarming with cops this morning. I hope they are watching for dumping.

Really people, you can't keep a few extra bags of garbage on your property for two days. seriously pathetic.

So you are happy with the leadership? You are happy that the city is taking advantage of its citizens instead of helping them?

when its 33C and u have an apartment and no pick up for over a week i think youd be resorting to certain tactics yourself. That said, i dont support illegal dumping unless its union headquarters, city hall or in front of the transfer station pickets.

Personally im glad i can at least bring my trash to aurora to get rid of it.

No I am not happy

I said they should help

But I also dotn think they are taking advantage of people. They are punishing people who should be punished.

Importance depends on how one measures it. That said; the relative importance of a job doesn't have nearly as much impact on wages as does the supply of potential workers. Professionals such as RJ possess skills and knowledge that are in limited supply. While a great deal of the population posses the necessary skills to work in sanitation very few possess the skills to run a successfully market a product, represent someone's interests before the court, manage an office, adjust an insurance claim, fill a tooth, etc.

and educate the youth of tomorrow, bla bla? That's what I do and if I remember correctly, secondary school teachers are considered professionals? I am as much a professional (I have 3 degrees hanging on my wall) as RJ or anyone on here that considers themselves' "professionals". I also belong to a union. Yet, I'm still a professional. I also work my goddamn ass off and (probably) put in more time than a lot of you when it all adds up, but I do not look down on garbage men for their "unskilled uneducated" work. A lot of those guys have a better work ethic and are much tougher people than a lot of so called "professionals". The high and mighty talk on here is abundant, eh?
