within hours there was dumping at christie pits. wtf? you can keep your garbage with you for a few days. as soon as the strike was announced, they went to put garbage at the park. wtf?

It would not surprise me in the least that it was actually garbage collection employees doing this in an attempt to futher their "cause".

I see the city using this as an opportunity to make a lot of money in saved salaries and by making sure the bylaw officers fine everything that they can.

You think the city would send out liason workers to help its citizens? Nope, just bylaw officers to fine people who dare try to do something with their garbage.

Well if you and the ing union are so goddamned essential, then you shouldn't be allowed to strike. Simple as that.

There's a reason they're paid as well as they are to do the job. So do it, or let someone else who's out of work & willing to do it take over.

Unions are anti-competition by their very composition. Thereby breeding complacency. That's why I hate them.

I've also had the misfortune of working in 3 different unions over my life. So don't come back at me with any bull "you don't know what you're talking about" crying.

unchecked "competition" (read: corporate greed) is exactly what has landed us in this most recent financial mess.

Shouldn't be allowed to strike? The law says otherwise. Besides, I don't have any part of this strike. I was never a garbage man, either, but those guys work their asses off and deserve every penny they get. The timing of the work stoppage is unfortunate, but the rampant ill informed anti-union comments on here are, yet again, quite disappointing.

Better still, cut the goddamn plastic & bin it.

Don't let these lazy cunts get away with anything. I for one will be covering the handles of my bin with stick-um on the first collection day that these swine are back in my area just to piss them off a little bit more.

lol. "lazy ****s"? Everyone with a union is a lazy ****! Someone's been taking too much stock in corporate propaganda I see.

The CUPE local 416 office/union hall is located at:

110 Laird Drive in Toronto

Something to consider as you decide where to dispose of your garbage.

How about union greed that holds the taxpayer hostage as they own a monopoly over the services they depend on?

Competition would mean fewer disruptions

I wasnt aware that you actually need a permit to take WEDDING PHOTOS IN A PARK?

What dont you need the government's permission (and more importantly to give them money) in this country??

Importance depends on how one measures it. That said; the relative importance of a job doesn't have nearly as much impact on wages as does the supply of potential workers. Professionals such as RJ possess skills and knowledge that are in limited supply. While a great deal of the population posses the necessary skills to work in sanitation very few possess the skills to run a successfully market a product, represent someone's interests before the court, manage an office, adjust an insurance claim, fill a tooth, etc.

Some dude called a radio show saying that they were "fighting for their rights" These things are not rights, they are perks..

Give me a ing break. Sick days are for when you are sick! You don't get extra money for being healthy....these people can basically use this as a form of a retirement savings...bank your sick days for 20-30 years and cash out at the end...WTF!

I am so sick of the unions and their gouging ways..I say legislate their asses back to work immediately or fire them all and contract the jobs out...

Unionized employees make on average 16% more than their private sector counterparts.

When benefits are added in the difference increases to 30%.

Tax payers pay unionized workers 30% more than private sector workers doing the exact same job.

Is anyone else wondering how so many people have so much garbage already?

Ridiculous.
