Actually any amount up to 120 is paid upon leaving the city.

Not for people of the poubelle.

I'm just talking about ONE branch of the city workers. So what you're all saying could be true for others . All I know is one.

Oh, yes. You're right.
They have no say in the matter. Thanks for wording it a way I couldn't.

It's 120* for their entire career. 10 years or 40 years. Still 120.

He has 156 for 23 years which = to around 7 days a year I believe. But still, only 120.

* that 120 you only get after you have retired. If you don't have 120 then you don't get anything. You HAVE to have 120 saved to retire and get paid.

lol. i don't think you understand how twisted that sounds. just think about it for a minute.

when a worker retires from any other job, they don't get paid another 3 months salary. they are retired. there is no saving days.

you don't have to have 120 days saved to retire. you still got paid for the days you worked.
Frenchie
Well I'm not arguing but I know what I'm talking about.

So what? They get money from a sick bank when they retire. You get bonuses, or gifts, or retreats, or what ever else. This is their... thank you when they leave the city. How you can argue it or think it's stupid is your prerogative, but they go their entire careers with nothing. They work for the people they clean for you and that's all the did. Yes, that's their job and yes, that's what they get paid to do but a little thank you after 35 years ( I'm using 35 because that's how many years my dad would have worked when he retires) is nice and that's what they get. So? Different jobs get different perks. And YES you HAVE to have 120 days BANKED in order to get ANY money AT all. I don't know how many times I have to stress this. I'm talking about Garbage Collections retirement. I don't know about any other department.

but the 120 days has nothing to do with this so I don't know why this is an issue with you. It's all getting changed anyway. That won't even exist anymore and they don't mind.

So.... the LCBO is expected to go on strike on Wednesday.

At least you'll have readily available garbage to ferment and drink that.
Frenchie
Just the LCBO? Beer sales might go up lol

What has the city put on the table that the union does not like?

Things obviously get confused in the media.

I am curious to see what the biggest issues are and why there can't be an agreement.

Do you work inside at a desk job where you don't have to work in nasty weather? Probably, but I won't judge.

120 days divided by 35 years = what? 3 days a year? See, it adds up in the long run and you guys are thinking right NOW.

That logic is so flawed. It's not that they get 3 days per year. This is what they SAVE, not are alloted. How many sick days are they actually allowed per year? They can still use a bunch, and then bank some. So they can still take their sick days, and then bank upto 120 total. Don't make it sound as if they only get 3 a year, or what ever division you used.

And yes, others get perks, but those are private companies, who are free to do what they want with their revenue. If they want to treat their employees better, then it is their decision. These are public workers, with public funding. If they want the same perks, then tell them to get out of that job.

Sick days are for being sick, very simple. If you are healthy, always show up on time, do your work, and don't miss work, then you should be rewarded by your manager by way of promotions or raises. There are more ways to reward a worker than paying them for a job they didn't do.

The biggest issue is that the city wants to rewrite their entire collective agreement so they have absolute power over everything.

Example: one year or 35 years it doesn't matter you'd have no seniority. Although this is not possible with several arbitration over the years. It is a ploy the city used in order to make them go on strike instead of a lock out so the workers look bad and the city looks good. They'll be legislated back within 3 weeks. The talks will continue and everything will be ok.

Close pins sales may rocket as well.
