You keep saying it's the workers, the worker, the workers who are to blamer - garbage or day care. It's the city. So blame the garbage collectors all you want. They don't like being on strike and not getting paid as much as you don't like getting your garbage not picked up. the city WANTS this.
And marg, I was being sarcastic. Even my dad only has a few banked days racked up from 23 years of work. No one gets THAT high. I was just saying.
Relaaaaaax. I'm just speaking FOR someone with what THEY are told.
The garbage won't be overflowed in bins and making the city all ugly. downtown will be cleaned, all of it will be put in arena parking lots and big parking lots around the city. |

| The only valid arguement the union has is that the city agreed to similar terms about a month ago with one of the other unions. |

Having a garbage strike during peak tourist season is only going to hurt our already suffering tourism industry.
What a horrible first impression the city makes with all our garbage bins taped off and garbage all over the sidewalks...
I really hope this is resolved quickly. |

Everybody got a raise this year. They Mayor, TTC, counselors, Fire Fighters. You name it, they got that raise. Now the city is broke. So what's the best way of making money? By putting your most work force on strike for 1 pay period. look at the money they got now. With the money the saved with them being on strike, is what they'll use to give them a raise. Then the city will be maintained and Captain Planet will be satisfied. I'm not trying to argue, I'm just stating the facts that are laid out. |

no no no. i am definitely not blaming the worker. they are always the ones that get ed too. our family went through a strike when i was in high school. 8 months of the worst possible finances for a new canadian family. it's those damn union heads that make everyone look bad because they are out for an arguement about every little thing. like my dad even wanted to go to the picket line, as if. he just went because it was the little bit of cash he go from it.
if you are saying that your dad only has a few banked days, then what is the big deal. lower that limit even more. 120 days is rediculous. i would say 15 days is enough. Over two weeks pay when you retire. Sweet! Sign me up because that's not going to happen at any other job.
How many does your dad have? |

| Actually the mayor froze his salary but the other councillors were not obligated to follow suit. |

Yes, 18 sick days a year.
While other people get bonuses at Christmas or just in general, they get sick days - no bonus.
While you think they keep racking up sick days, like pool balls, it stops at 120. If they made it to 400 sick days, they only get 120 when they retire. Is it really a huge deal to be pissy when these men worked 30 years for the city, or more? All weather. Rain, shine, snow, tornado. 120 sick day. That's it. |
LOL ONLY 120 sickdays?? oh no!
i get 3-5 sickdays a year, non transferable and this is after i went thru 5 years of uni and 20+ grand in tuition.
and how much vacation do they get per year? im willing to bet more then 2 weeks |

Oh, yes. You're right.
They have no say in the matter. Thanks for wording it a way I couldn't.
It's 120* for their entire career. 10 years or 40 years. Still 120.
He has 156 for 23 years which = to around 7 days a year I believe. But still, only 120.
* that 120 you only get after you have retired. If you don't have 120 then you don't get anything. You HAVE to have 120 saved to retire and get paid. |

rofl
4 weeks is standard and it builds after that.
Do you work inside at a desk job where you don't have to work in nasty weather? Probably, but I won't judge.
120 days divided by 35 years = what? 3 days a year? See, it adds up in the long run and you guys are thinking right NOW. |
