Review: Canada Day @ The Guvernment (06/30/09)

Completely missed Menno, Cosmic and Lawler (main room set). Dubfire's didn't grab me at all but maybe it was because I just came from Ferry's huge banging set in KH and it was too much of an adjustment. The sunrise set was outrageously busy.. no surprise there. Finally after 7am there was room to dance in the main dance floor - too bad I was too tired too at this point. I was really surprised to not see Dubfire as a part of the sunrise set as it said on the Canada Day flyer...

Ya Ferry played a great set imo.
Cosmic gate was a bit too boring at first ..i dunno just didnt seem liek the right time for that stuff) but picked it up nicely on the back end.
menno opening was decent. tried to go up to skybar at 4:20ish and there was already a huge line. |

had a good time overall but mostly because ferry saved the day as usual.
he played a nice 3 hour set ranging from new stuff to the old. lots of banging tunes mixed in with those awesome hands-in-the-air close-your-eyes sort of tracks.
the lighting was timed well with the songs which was nice to see. kudos to the lighting guys in the back.
i was also suprised with the 2 live pa tracks as it was never mentioned here or on the flyer.
in regards to CG and MDJ, meh. wasn't suprised or anything since the last couple of times they were here their sets were subpar. it's too bad they getting booked for big events.
otherwise, it was great to see all the people there. however, it's too bad i didn't get a chance to chat longer with some of you. |

its funny because i seem to recall people asking when they should get up to skybar and i said they need to get up there early if they want to avoid a line. other ta's would say last year they had no problem last year. i left skybar around 6:20 and there was still a line in the drink waiting to get up. |

- Started out with Cosmic. They were decent, nothing really excited me there.
- Next went to Main room for Hawtin's entire set. He was banging hard the entire time! Definitely destroyed the place in there. It was pretty dark, but loved every minute of it!
- Then proceeded over to Ferry where I haven't seen much from him, but he BLEW me away like he did at LOL 2006! Unreal! Best part was when he finished with 5+ classics back2back2back2back2back! UNREAL!!!
- Wandered back and forth between Main room and KH until 515 when I went up to Skybar. I had to wait about 5 minutes to up around 515, so no big deal. It was pretty rammed, but didn't seem AS bad as last year, and we all found a nice spot in one tents which protected us from to pushing of the crowd. Only stayed for a couple hours, but his set was decent. A lot better than last year, and was pretty much the essential mix.
Overall, it was an awesome Canada Day party and was glad the weather held up for the Sunrise set! Great to see everyone all the familiar TAs again and great party with all you guys :D
