I thought it was cool for all of 2 seconds then just about puked on the dancefloor...prefer the vocals in the track as is and then MINIMAL vocals in a trance set. Also, there has to be variety, if it's all fluff or all vocal or ALL hard beats in a trance set it annoys me.

i guess for some it varies, since i think vocals are the best (well there are bad vocals of course) when your totally climbing and peaking.

edit: to each and their own, not everyone follows the same path.

His set was up there. :thepirate

As for vocals while 'totally peaking and climbing', this does not apply to me. I just go to party, drink and hang out with friends. So yeah, what I said still stands. :D

wikkid time....
compared to the last 2 skybar sessions, this one was the best set....
ferry was good from wat i seen....
the end of dubfire's set was nutts, he played this one track at the end that would just build, i think lawler played it in an essential mix from 2005.....if anyone knows it please post it......
i think these surise sessions are getting shorter each here.....
i wanted to spend more time in the drink or skybar, but didnt have time....
this osawa character laid down a few rock mash ups that were good.....
i caught hawtin when he was walking to the stairs, i started yelling at him......
these security pricks in white shirts, clearly don't understand how we do in guv.....
bring on crookers, eddie, and labour of love

What a crazy couple of days... I'm fully recouped from Guv craziness followed by a second dose of Hawtin and Dubfire in Windsor... Damnit those guys rock the house. Tues night absolutely flew by hopping from guv to kh. Ferry played some wicked classics, i think i heard guryella?? what a class act :)
I didnt see ferry's intro as some of you said it was cheesy? I'm not a fan of soft piano and vocals, kind of a buzz kill, but what i did hear from him blew my mind once again.
Richie was also a star, dropping some dark hard techno to a crowd that were digging every second of it. Dubfire was up there just as much imo.
I didnt even bother going to see the sunrise set, I could see the sun rising from the side door of the main room without being squished. Hope everyone had as much fun as I did, I love Toronto :)

a) the set pretty much followed his e.m.
b) the sound system on skybar sucks balls (yet another reminder)
c) probably wont go back unless they fix b).

A short review.

Ferry's final barrage was stellar for me. Ripping through the classics felt like a quick culmination of the years gone by with a solid stop in 2004 hearing Punk & Rock Your Body back to back. I don't really know about anyone else, but that made me smile.

Richie didn't disappoint, but as usual during Lawler, I looked around for people actually dancing for more than 1 tune at a stretch & it was like trying to find Waldo while wearing red & white striped sunglasses.

All in all a great night with great friends all the way through. Thanks to those who've shared their space and smiles with me over the years, you've always made the legs last longer than they should have.

Now it's time for that hiatus I've been yammering abobut for the last while.

Cheers.

Great Night!!!

I saw Richie Hawtin for about an hour but he didn't really do it for me.

Ferry Corsten played an amazing set however I think he played one too many cheesy vocal tracks.

I enjoyed Menno's set as well but was kinda pissed that he only played for 2 hrs.

It was nice meeting some TAs that I recognized.

I saw a lot of people that I suspected were TAs but had no idea what u guys looked like so I didn't bother saying anything lol

Overall 8/10

AMAZING. I've only been to Canada Day @ Guv a few times, but this def. was the best one i've been too musically. It honestly was inspiring, exactly what i've been looking for lately. It's somewhat rare that we get to even hear techno in the Guv main room, and wow, i was not disappointed at all on this night. What a line-up!

I also started off in Kool Haus with Cosmic Gate...heard 'Not Enough Time' which I still love. LOL But as soon as Hawtin's set started in the main room, I was in there, and i never left. It was my first time seeing Hawtin and he def. impressed me. I was glad i snuck onto the stage, because the main room was def. pretty rammed at that point.

I usually can't get into Dubfire's live sets....they usually bore me for the most part. Not this time. His set was pretty ing mind blowing!!! Finally I got to see a good Dubfire set! I knew he had it in him :) I can't help but think that Hawtin's amazing set before him had something to do with it, as he pretty much followed suit with what Hawtin had been playing up to that point. Much harder techno than i'm used to hearing from him, and his set actually seemed to have more of a flow. Not as stagnant & monotonous as i've seen from him in the past.

Lawler's set is a complete blur (i'm pretty sure i was on the patio for most of it), but I do remember thinking that his set was the best I've 'personally' heard from his as well. Haven't been a Lawler fan up until this point, but he gained some ground that night for sure. Headed up to Skybar for his sunrise set, but left shortly after to go drink more in the sun!

only regret...but not really a regret as there was no way i was leaving main room for anyone. BUT, I'm still sad i missed Ferry :( He'll be back though, i'll catch him again NEXT time.

Amazing Canada Day. I wish i could go back and do it all over again. 10 out of 10 :) vids to come.

Too drained and lazy to write a real review.. so in short..

- Best Canada Day @ Guv since 2005
- Richie played set of the night
- Sound system in the main room is even worse and distorted than before.
- Ferry tickled my heart
- Lawler House was back in action
- Skybar wasn't half as ugly as it was last year
