i once called a waiter the missing link and told him that the service was horrible, the food worse, and that i absolutely wanted to see the manager.
nothing was wrong with anything, i realized that i had forgot my credit card, and was 20 bucks shy cash wise to foot the bill. My bitching to the manager got me the discount i needed to avoid doing dishes.
great success.
the waiter deserved it for having hairy robin williams hands. |
this is easily the best story I've read in the last 2 weeks. :stongue: |

| i once wrote this on the bill "tip, try not to be such a bitch next time." my friends and i still left her a tip but not a good one. i'm pretty easy going so for someone to make me do that says a lot. generally i tip pretty well. |

Bitchy customers are the worst. Had to deal with several tonight who got all pestered and angry over pretty much nothing. |
You also have to keep in mind where you live. Bitchy customers in the States are automatic (a little less so in Canada, but barely) because of this idea of entitlement that has been beaten into them by the corporate world. It's all about them, what they say, their feelings, etc etc etc. The whole theory of "the customer is always right" just opens up the door for everyone to be a prick. I think that theory is a crock of and if any customer of my business tried to take advantage of me or my workers because of it, they'd be promptly asked to take their business elsewhere. |

| Exactly, I've always felt that way. People who come in and act as if they own me simply because they know I can't retaliate without consequences piss me right the off. |

| Once me and some friends ate at the TGI Friday's in Union City. The bitch who served us must have been either coked or methed up that day. She comes running over to our table all polite but talking incredibly fast. We order our drinks and the bitch gets it wrong not once, but twice, and on the first order. The first time we told her that we wanted Mr. Pibb instead of Root Beer, she came back with the exact same thing! s up on the food order as well. She gave one of my friends a steak dinner when she ordered pasta. So she had to wait another 15 minutes or so before she got her order and by then we were all pretty much done with our food and had to wait for our friend to eat hers. Needless to say, she didn't get tipped . I mean I loved the responsiveness and all, but what's the point if you just continuously fail? |

damn i forgot to share a great story, it came to me last night.
i took on a 2nd job a year or 2 ago as a hostess at a restaurant. it was a fancy reservation only type of place in a historical house that was built in the early 1900s. anyway, excellent food, etc...
i pretty much got along with everyone...no problems or ego or anything like you usually see in the restaurant business.
anyway there was this server who i didn't know very well other than the occasional small talk or "hey what's up" and one night on a slow night, he was really acting weird and obnoxious and everyone was talking about it. well, he was all pissed about something and was standing by one of the computer screens cursing and getting loud and i noticed some customers could hear him and were looking over. being the good hostess that i am, i was mortified and walked right over to him quickly and said in a stern, but quiet voice "hey! take that in the back, people can hear you".
BIG mistake lol he proceeded to get in my face and literally point his finger right in front of my face and start yelling out all kinds of profanities to me LOL i was shocked, i didn't know what to do. i'm not the kind of girl to just sit there and take and my first reaction was to yell back and slap his hand out of my face or punch him or something lol but this was like a 5 star resaurant and i have a strong work ethic so i just walked away and went to the back kitchen and told the head chef (he was the managing partner and everyone feared him cuz he's a big angry fat ). i basically said, "either he walks out of here right now, or i do" and the chef told me to leave. he just didn't want a big scene to break out because he could see i was fuming and that if i was antagonized any more i was gonna ing flip out (i pretty much told him that too).
so i left for the night and then found out the next day from a server that the guy ended up really losing it. he was walking around throwing glasses and yelling at guests LOL he was drunk and on coke and was having a rage fit in the restaurant, going off on anyone.:stongue: i am so glad i got out of there when i did because it would have gotten ugly. everyone was scared of him even dudes who worked there who were twice his size didnt say anything to him and i loved how a few of the guy servers told me the next time they saw me how they "were gonna do somethnig if he didn't get out of my face"
yea right. bunch of ing pussies couldn't even stand up for a female getting reamed by a psycho for no reason. i thought the guy was going to hit me at one point which is why i walked away.
i talked a little to some servers about how that guy is lucky he got fired and that i probably won't see him again. i guess they toldl that kid and he started getting scared that i was going to send some guys to go beat him up and he was all apologetic to the servers telling them to tell me he was sorry lol |

lol tgi fridays.
anyone that eats there must have lost their taste buds in a horrible fire. If you want good service go to places that hire professional wait staff, and not high school students/tired uni students/single meth moms. Some people actually go to school for it, and don't laugh...a good waiter/bartender at a prestige location can make more in a year then a lot of people with university degrees. I know a couple, and when i eat at establishments that employ these kind of people, it is very rare that i have ever had a problem, and if i did it was handeled professionally with courtesy and a level of confidentiality as to keep the serene calm vibe of the establishment.
My gf has a great day job for instance with the cirque du soleil. Last night she worked (she does this on the side.) a corporate box for a kiss concert in town and in 4 hours made 500$ without even breaking a sweat (not including salary). I've been invited in the box a few times, and i can tell you that the level of service is bar none. Bear in mind that this is for higher end customers and the company box costs over 500k a year to rent (not including consumption of food and beverage).
There are 2 sides to the coin here. I always laugh at the hicks from bum nowhere who make weekend trips into the city, go to dive bars/tgi friday for a "romantic" dinner with their toothless girlfriend...and then expect the whole place to faun over them because they are spending 25 dollars (and leave like 2 bucks in change tip).
want better service, get a better job so you don't have to go slumming.
window shoppers:p |

Here in the U.K tipping has never been really used in the way that american restaurants do it. With having no experience of an american restaurant , it seems to me, that you have to tip , no execptions , is this true?
And back on topic , personally here in england i find the ethnic restaurants have the best customer service.Chinese , indian etc...
Even the great brtish pub lunch has become a joke consisting of 2 for 1 offers and thousands of screaming brats...and poor pre prep food and forced customer service (im looking at you brewers fayre)
And for those who have heard of it , even frankie and bennys is slipping down the pan.
Used to be good that place about 5 years ago. |

You don't have to tip but servers don't get paid the same as anyone with a normal job. They make about $3/hr, so they rely on tips for their income. If you don't tip you look cheap, but that also depends on the service. |

once again...not every waiter makes less an hour than normal.
the tip is not to keep them from being poor in this case...the tip is there to thank them for making a good night even better. I like going to a place where i don't have to pour my own wine or have my cigars cut for me. Being served like a king feels prety damn good. If i would pay a hooker, i would pay my waiter:p |

Ahh that makes sense , $3 an hr! that is pretty cruel , we have the minimum wage over here , so they have to be paid £5.52 ($9) or more an hour if they are over 22 or £3.79 an hour($6.18)if under 18. |
