well yea those types of dogs you don't form THAT kind of emotional connection with. when you buy a dog just for that though, it's the whole purpose:p

I agree with a lot of you, and crap service is definitely quite the annoyance.

I'm also of the opinion, however, that there are a vast amount of people who's service expectations are a bit unrealistic. That may just be me, I'm pretty easy on people unless they just obviously aren't doing their job correctly.

Agreed.

I worked as both a waitress and a bartender and I definitely agree that some people have way too high of expectations. Servers take a lot of , they hardly get breaks, they get bitchy/snobby customers and the pay is garbage for the amount of work done.

Not to mention that a lot of restaurants etc. have a very high turnover and therefore are often under staffed. This means more work for fewer people. Servers can get spread pretty damn thin and it really is a thankless job for the most part.

Although I expect good quality service for the money that I pay, I also don't set the bar too high and I try to be observant. If there are 3 waitresses and a full restaurant, then obviously it's out of their control. If you see them just sitting around chatting to their co-workers, then I get pissed.

It's not an easy job... I know I would never do it again.

That, and most people don't realize that as a server, I tip out hosts, bartender, and the bussers. So if the tip is low enough or there is none at all, I end up paying to serve the ing table.

The thing about the service industry is the expectation of perfection. I sometimes get a drink order and I can't help it if a walk-in of a 20 top puts their drink order in before mine and my drinks come out a little bit late, amongst other things that happen. If your are talking about service at restaurants, at least back it up by saying you have worked in a full service restaurant and you actually know how difficult it can be at times.

On some slow nights, I would have to take money out of my own pocket to pay for the "tip outs" (which in my opinion is total bull). I unfortunately worked right by a university, so tips were REALLY bad sometimes.

I pay what the restaurant asks, for the meal I expect. If the overall outcome if my 'dining experience' is poor, I won't be back. As a restauranteur, the idea should be to get repeat business, and getting a good name for the restaurant.

Working for tips is a flawed idea anyway. By your standards there, if the food is , then the serving staff won't be getting tipped much, if at all. The quality of the food, however, is not the responsibility of the serving staff, now is it?

Staff, serving or otherwise (and I've worked and a waiter, and behind the bar at both restaurants and regular bars) should be paid a decent wage, and have tips as a bonus for exceptional performance.

Agreed 100%! The whole tipping system in my opinion is bull. Include the costs of labour. If you want to eat out, you have to pay for what you get, including the service. I don't care if it's cheaper for the consumer... all it does is make it harder for the employees and therefore harder for the service industry to actually retain decent staff. It's a ty system.

i once called a waiter the missing link and told him that the service was horrible, the food worse, and that i absolutely wanted to see the manager.

nothing was wrong with anything, i realized that i had forgot my credit card, and was 20 bucks shy cash wise to foot the bill. My bitching to the manager got me the discount i needed to avoid doing dishes.

great success.

the waiter deserved it for having hairy robin williams hands.

Because if that $100 bill included labor costs and you didn't have to tip, you would actually be paying more than $125, and you would be paying tax on that labor cost as it is included on the sale.

I still don't understand why people don't get the efficiency of the tipping system. You are paying less incrementally for the service through tipping than paying the aggregate labor costs with tax attached to the bill. Your food bill is so low because labor is barely included.

Think in terms of incremental costs vs. aggregate, and think like business people folks.

blah blah blah. who can believe millions of Australians can afford to go out to dinner with these huge labour and tax costs!? I’d much prefer to live in some ass-backwards country that pays its workers a pittance so they must beg and do tricks in order to make ends meet.

infinity HiGH
Gratuities are better. Less work and more pay :D

Bitchy customers are the worst. Had to deal with several tonight who got all pestered and angry over pretty much nothing.
